I can't find how to put it back to where I can just swipe to unlock the screen. I cleared credentials already.

Settings >Lock Screen & Security > Lock Screen Type > Swipe

Is up phone encrypted? Do u have to enter a password/pin before u r phone boots up?

No. I had it set to where I put a pin code in. I was trying to change it back to regular

I can imagine this being one of Samsung's plans to make every phone secure.

Have you tried clicking 'None' in the screen lock type settings?
