Logging on to shop WiFi is forcing me to use Huawei Browser

I have set my default browser to Chrome. However, when in a cafe or shop that has WiFi and it asks to sign in it keeps opening the Huawei Browser and is trying to make me set it up through that browser rather than Chrome.

Any ideas how I can stop this?

Don't sign on using the stock option. That cannot be changed. Rather open captive portal or any webpage in Chrome and that should prompt the sign on page on most public networks.

It shouldn't really matter if you log into the public wi-fi using the stock browser -- once you've logged on, you could always close the stock browser and open Chrome. The wi-fi connection doesn't depend on the browser you use.

Yes for now I'm having to log on through Huawei Browser, close it then continue on Chrome.

When connecting to a public WiFi I will get the Android notification pop up and when pressing that it instantly brings up Huawei Browser and will not let me log in if I close / disagree. Using Chrome and doing a regular search will not trigger the sign on page for some reason. I had the mate 20 Pro and this didn't happen so not sure what is set up different to do this.

Your default browser may be set to Chrome but you may still have certain links set to open on the Huawei Browser by default. Go into settings, apps, apps, Huawei browser, opens by default, clear defaults. You should be prompted next time you sign into a public WiFi as to what app to open with

I didn't think there was even a Huawei Browser app now anyway? My last 2 Huawei's have both come with Chrome as the only browser installed. I haven't seen the Huawei one since my P10 a few years ago

Edit - had to go find it on Google and install the Apk. Looks a really good app these days. Just wish you could set the Homepage to something personal instead of just being a black page with a search bar at the top

Hi thanks for trying to help.

I've gone into the settings and for that browser it says I have no defaults for it. I have force stopped it, cleared cache etc. However, as soon as trying to access public WiFi it just pops up straight away with having to agree to let Huawei Browser collect data etc. If I agree to it I can then just close it down and continue with Chrome. However, if I disagree to it it just closes the window and I cannot get Chrome to trigger the sign in stage. Very strange. I've had p20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro and never had this happen

wanna add a quick reply that i'm also facing a similar issue and have been searching for the last two days without a soln. i do not want to activate huawei's browser. i wonder if getting into adb and removing the browser would solve this (more drastic soln for the uninitiated i know).

If the OS is prompting CaptivePortal logins to open exclusively with the stock browser, then disabling/removing it would only accomplish what people who delete the keyboard do: you just won't have it. And then you wouldn't be able to sign in automatically.
