So as many of you probably know Google has announced Android Lollipop 5.1
Official Android Blog: Android 5.1: Unwrapping a new Lollipop update

I am currently on a Nexus 5 Debating on upgrading to the Nexus 6. I'm wondering if Google will allow you to disable encryption in 5.1 Since last week they stated that they have dropped full disk encryption as a requirement.

Anyway once one of you get the 5.1 update I was wondering if you could check :)

And yes I know you can use the workaround on XDA just wondering if it 5.1 allows for it without any tweaking
Cheer's

You'll need to do the workaround. Nexus devices will come encrypted since that's the way Google wants it to be.

Encryption is fine on the nexus 6. No need to take it off. This phone is fast and should get faster with 5.1

Did you own a nexus 5? Reading around in the forums and seeing "it's slower then my nexus 5" kind of shares me. But I've only owned nexus android phones and really don't want to change.

I have not owned a previous nexus phone. But I love the Nexus 6 so far. I don't really find it to be slow at all. I came from a 2 and a half year old Droid RAZR M though so the N6 blows that out of the water.

I started on 5.01 but I have never seen slow so I never unencrypted.

My girlfriend has a nexus 5. They are both damn fast phones.

Its a worthy upgrade if you can get it on a deal IMHO. it is faster and if you want to disable encryption, there will be ways to do so just with a bit a patience. I currently still have it turned on and put a custom kernel on it. but was on stock most of the time before that.

I read on one of these blogs that Google enabled hardware encryption that is on the processor for the n6 in the new 5.1 update. Anyone else read that?

It was in their commits at first but then removed. Theory that I read is that the hardware method slowed down performance even more. At least for the time being.

Still cannot change encryption setting on 5.1 stock Nexus 6.
