I know it hasn't been officially released but I'm wondering if anyone knows if the N5 with Lollypop will support Hot Word detection from sleep and double tap to wake. I know it won't support ambient display because of the display type, but wasn't sure about the other two "features".

These are the two biggest features I want to come to the nexus 5. As far as the hotword detection it should get that. The snapdragon 800 was the first of their processors to support that feature. The double tap to wake is another story, as it has already been done with custom kernels, but it adds some serious battery drain. The only way I see the nexus 5 getting the double tap to wake feature is if google has it work the same way the the one M8 where the double tap only works after you pick up the device.

What is ambient display? Also I thought it already supported hot word detection when asleep?

No, it doesn't. There's a way to achieve it through a customized Kernel, but I think it sacrifices battery life. There was a video posted a while back, not sure what came of the feature in terms of being released.
Ambient display came directly from the moto x. It lights up certain pixels to give relevant information but needs an AMOLED screen to work. Which makes me wonder if that feature will be active on Samsung phones when they get the update.
