Lollipop?

I installed last night. Murdered my battery for awhile, but seems back to normal this morning.

I have two main issues so far:

1. Chrome now randomly freezes. It's been laggy for a couple months now, but with Lolipop it's flakey too. I'm done with Chrome.

2. Keep getting notification for "An application requires an u..." "Requested by Google Play Services". Can't get more details from the notification. Going to it takes me to Play Services with no indication of what the problem is.

Other than that, seems OK so far. It still lags, not sure if that's a bit worse or better, but it's still not good. I wouldn't expect any different from Samsung.

Well evidently this may have been Facebook. Everything showed in Play as being up to date, but after a reboot Facebook then needed an update. After updating it that notification seems to have gone away.

These notifications really need some detail in them, so we can at least identify what app is causing them. What's the point otherwise?

This was my report from above of my running into that problem with my Verizon Samsung GS5:

I did my two updates to my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 this afternoon, without any moves to clear cache partitions or any factory resets.

I had three issues pop up after the updates finished:

  1. ...
  2. Google Play Services app needed to be updated via Play Store, but it kept failing to download anything and update. I just kept trying. Eventually, it was able to download some of its update, seemingly getting stuck about 9.18 MB in, where I cancelled it and restarted it a few times...But eventually, it successfully updated, and I stopped getting that message. Maybe 2 hours or so after the update of sporadic trying, while troubleshooting/in airplane mode for the next issue.
    ...

That also seems consistent with a few others who reported running into that Google Play Services needing an update from the first couple of pages in this thread. Which is not to say that Facebook couldn't have been the the underlying cause...as my FB app did update at least a couple of times in there...

exactly the same problem,i thouht it was becaus emy endomondo account was linked to my FB account and i have deactivated, but obviously not....any ideas?

If you go to Settings - Lock Screen and then scroll down to Vibration Feedback and untick this option :) x

My experience:

1) Updated to Lollipop
2) Phone was laggy and would over-heat when playing Star Wars: Commander or Clash of Clans; also after using Waze
3) Backed up and restored phone
4) Good as new and performance was vastly improved.

If you're having issues after updating, I'd suggest backing up and resetting the phone. If you live in the cloud, you're half way there. There are apps that also do backups of rooted and non-rooted devices. Good luck all! Loving my S5 on Lollipop!

Lollipop has been good on my GS5 for 5-6 days now. The phone is a little snappier. The only negative so far I discovered this morning when the Alarm on the Clock app didn't wake me. I always totally silence my phone when I go to sleep. The alarm would previously sound even if the phone was totally silenced. Not anymore. Now the phone has to be on vibrate or full sound. I don't understand why this change was made. The vibrate function can wake a light sleeper during the night, which is why I don't use it.

Just thought I'd pass this on. I was only 15min late as a result of oversleeping this morning.

Priority Mode is what's needed to get around this. "Thank you" to whoever needlessly complicated this process.

Has anyone fixed their issues with a factory reset? Sometimes new OS updates don't sit well with existing ecosystems. If you can, back up and do a factory reset by powering your phone off, waiting for it to shut down completely, and then hold Power, Volume Up, and the home key all at the same time until you feel the phone vibrate. Then, you should be in a colorful looking menu. Use the volume keys to move down to Factory Reset. Click it with the power key. Then navigate to the only "yes" and click. It will most likely ask you if you are really sure. Once you do this, you should have a fresh install to put your apps on. Sometimes this works because basically your apps are still seeing Kitkat and Dalvik instead of Lollipop and ART.

This isn't meant for those of you who already know how and why, just some tips for beginners. Don't want everyone to feel like idiots, lol.

Boom! From My S5

My wifes S4 updated to 5.0.1 and I'm trying to get into DFU mode using the suggestions above, but everytime I hold the Vol up, Power and Home, the phone just restarts..it doesn't go into DFU mode.. am I doing something wrong? i power off the phone completely first.

My moms does this once in a while, I let it do its little stint and then after like the 3rd try it goes. Not sure why this is.

It worked using just Vol up and Power at the same time (after phone was powered off)...

are you pictures saving ok, everytime i take a picture then go in to view it, the picture comes up as corrupt .

after i updated lollipop something happened and i lost 200odd pictures from last year anyone know how to get these or even if i can get these back??

The latest update supposedly improves battery life. I think it's about the same, but its really hard to judge when my use varies by day. Some days I game, some days I don't. Some days I'm dependent on Maps...some days I'm not. It's just a hard thing to put into numbers, as everyone uses their phone differently.

I just updated to 5.0, the latest for att. Took forever for it to load.
