Hi everyone,

Just making an introduction, just joined the forums! I'm a longtime member of (in order of joining) Treocentral (John_Vincent), WPCentral (John_Vincent) Crackberry (john_v), TiPb (Runswithscissors), and now AndroidCentral. Yes, I've used multiple devices from all those platforms, and right now I"m wrestling with what platform to go with for the next 2 years. Right now I"m stuck with a BB Torch, liked it at first, but it really leaves a lot to be desired. Overall, I've used BB for a couple years now, and while it has a lot of positives, it's just becoming very tired, and a lack of apps is really starting to wear on me. Having used iOS on a iTouch and 3Gs, I got spoiled with app selection.

I'm probably going to be staying with AT&T long term, since 99% of my coworkers use ATT, and that enables me to have a lower amount of minutes. Right now, I think it's going to come down to Android and iOS (don't want to be a beta tester for W7  ) I have an upgrade available with att toward the end of January, so I'll be watching CES closely to see if att announces any good android devices. My brother in law has the captivate, which I've played with a little. But if I'm going to lock myself into another 2 years, I want something with a little more ooomph, if you know what I mean.
Personally, I don't mind the iOS, with the exception of being locked into itunes. From what I've been reading on AC and other forums, Android will help me to avoid being locked into a desktop program like that. One other reason I'm looking seriously at Android is that I"m a heavy google user. (I'm heavy, and I use google!! :p ) Seriously though, I rely heavily on Google calendar and tasks, and would love to have tasks synced to my phone, and not have to rely on m.google.com/tasks! So, hopefully att will come out with something cool by mid- to end of February; I'm driving from Chicago to Florida at the beginning of March for vacation and it would be nice to have for the trip as well as have a couple weeks to play with and tweek!

About me? Well, I live in the Chicago suburbs, have a wife and 3 boys, the middle one is a tech nut like myself...always wanting me to hand down my old phones (he's only 8)! Have a hard time convincing him that I need to sell them to pay for the new ones! I spend my days as the head of online course development for a small college; I oversee a large staff of me, myself, and I!

Anywhoo, looking forward to reading more about Android here at AC, and making some new friends; have a lot over at Crackberry. I have to say that one thing I've noticed, as I've been spending a lot of time lately switching between AC, TiPb, and CB, is that this site and TiPb seem to have a lot of good news stories/phone release news every day. CB seems that it's mostly theme giveaways, and posts about overweight celebrities who still use aging bold 9000's (ok, I know that's an overgeneralization, but it does have some merit! :p )

Thanks for the welcome...and actually its just a new variation on a longtime addiction!

Funny story...I had been using PDA's for the longest time (Palm/WinMo), and finally had the money to buy a used treo 650 (this is many years ago!) My wife had always been ragging on me "Why do you really "need" those things, you don't need a smartphone, etc"; I had tried to get her to use a pda to help run her mary kay business, but to no avail. Well finally had the money, and we were with sprint at the time so my plan already covered a treo, so I went ahead and got one. The day I came home with it, we had to go out and run some errands, so she was playing with the treo while I was driving, and after about 10 minutes, she was like, "Wow, I could get used to one of these". Got her one for Christmas that year, and since then she's always upgraded with me. I'll probably upgrade her to the i4 when her line is available, since putting her on Android would be just too much of a headache for me!
