hello,

it was probably ten years ago when I purchased my galaxy sky from walmart. I would keep it if I could update it. since I bought a topdon topscan obd2 automotive diagnostic scan tool that connects to your phone via bluetooth, it looks like I will have to purchase another phone to use it. the scan tool requires above android 6. the galaxy sky has also had ongoing working issues. for no reason it will be 'searching for service' and I have to go through a ritual to get service working again. it would be great if I could download the updates with my computer and transfer them to the phone and install them, but all my research says it's not possible.

I am looking at the samsung Xcover Pro SM-G715U1, but I am willing to hear other suggestions. here are the features that are important to me:

1. straight talk $35/mo deal. that's what I pay currently. I would like to just switch over. I know you guys have no control over this, but may have experience with this and can say 'you can definitely do that'.

2. replaceable battery. this phone supposedly has a removable battery. to each their own, but this is something I will have.

3. 4g service. from what I read, it's going to be around for a while and it's good enough for me.

I just thought it would be a good idea to consult with someone who has alot more experience and knowledge than I've got. it's been so long since I bought a new phone.

thanks

What's your budget? The XCover Pro would be an ok choice, but my concern is that it was released in 2020, and therefore stopped getting update support. It looks like it did get up to Android 13, which isn't bad and should allow current apps to work for quite some time, but without continued updates support, there's always a question of potential security vulnerabilities.

If budget isn't a problem, you may want to look at the XCover 6 Pro instead, which was released in 2022. Doing a quick search on Google, I found a refurbished one for $270, which isn't bad.

I remember when I was planning on getting the XCover 6 Pro, a few years ago—that is, before deciding: Heck, the S23+'s hardware & performance is more important to me ..than being able to switch-out batteries—and seeing that there were a few other removable battery choices to consider as well, though not coming to mind at the mo, however there should be articles on what's available—removable battery wise—nowadays.

I don't know if I am allowed to put up a link, but I found a model SM-G736U on ebay the title says this:

Samsung Galaxy XCovr6 Pro SM-G736U Cellphone (Black 128GB) AT&T

seller name:
Powerbook Medic
price:
$128.01

the service is provided exclusively by AT&T. will I have any problem getting service going (obviously I am willing to pay)?

thanks for the replies
