How do I update my phone to 5.1, and will Advanced Calling work on my phone once I get it? It is a Motorola Store bought phone, with no Verizon logo, but I am using it on Verizon.

Yes advanced calling will work once you are on release D or better. Just be sure to turn it on with your account options

Depending on whether you want to use a tool kit or do it by hand or if you are on Mac or Windows or Linux you will have a different procedure for this. I suggest you read read read then read some more.

whatever you do don't relock the bootloader if you decide to unlock it.

- Take out the SIM
- Factory Reset Phone
- Restore Phone and Connect to WiFi
- The update will appear so download and install it.
- Put SIM back in.

The last step is the most important because you have to put the SIM in after the download and install.

Idk about Advanced Calling yet.

This worked perfect for installing 5.1! Thanks! Will test Advanced Calling in a bit.

I guess if you're happy with wiping your phone... sure.

After you complete this process, are all your apps and settings returned to their status prior to this process?

No "factory reset" does exactly what it sounds like it does.

Its beyond me why people don't use WugFresh to do these things...

I flashed 5.1 without losing data and on a Mac so it's entirely possible. Just added advanced calling 1.0 to my plan afterwards and I was all set.

Was tired of waiting so did the sim pull trick, everything was fine, a little pain setting a few things up again but enabled me to clean the phone up a bit at the same time. Next time I will just to this when the update is available, knowing Verizon they will not release it OTA until the fall :/

Did it push the D or E build?

I think it is the fantasy that OTA is somehow different or better than what you can download from Google. I'm not sure either

if you dont mind, could you please explain how you would use WugFresh? it would be great if i could do all of this without having to use adb since i have no experience with adb.

i am currently rooted to i would have to unroot in order to flash the OTA.

1) Unroot using WugFresh.

can i use WugFresh to flash the OTA or can i simply flash the OTA zip similar to a custom rom?

2) Flash OTA zip using WugFresh (if possible) or flash the OTA zip similar to a custom rom.

do i have to worry about my data being wiped and having to restore everything? i know to create a backup just in case something goes wrong, but i was wondering if flashing the OTA zip would wipe data?
people have mentioned that it doesn't but just wanted to confirm with you.

also what is "flashboot fast"? is it possible to use "flashboot fast" and not have to unroot my phone?

Just a quick question. I think I've read the answer in other forums but to be sure . . . and yes I realize this isn't the exact place for this but it's pretty close (in my mind anyway:).

I bought my N6 from Motorola.com also. It still shows up on verizonwireless.com as a non-verizon device however in the Google Play store it shows up like this:

Strange that Google recognizes that my N6 is a Verizon N6 but Verizon does not recognize it.

Thoughts?
