Looking for a TV box that doesn't use Android TV OS?

I hope that thread title makes sense. I had two A95 Max Smart tv boxes and an old Minix box that have all had their day and I really miss them. I've demoed a few boxes but everything has android tv on them and I just don't like it, especially that a lot of apps I have used for years aren't compatible with the aforementioned OS. I tried an Android TV set too but again there was so much I couldn't install to it (via traditional and side loading methods).

So are there still decent boxes being made with 'normal' Android (like on phones) on them?

Could any of you cleverer folks recommend a few? I see tons of cheap Chinese ones but I've been caught out a few times with them and how slow and poor they are.

I kinda doubt you'll find anything like that running normal Android due to the unique nature of being a streaming box. You might want to consider something with Chromecast that you can simply use your phone to connect and stream everything. Without knowing your specific use cases and apps you are trying to use, I don't know just how well that suggestion will work for you.

I would suggest that you also post your questions over at avsforum .com/forums ... as they have subforums —(although less than they used to have, unfortunately, due to a few idiotic, moron moderators they had, or may still have, who persistently drove frequent, perfect, super-members & customers away from their avsforum's, with their frequent, idiotic moderator behavior ; but I digress)—that may be helpful to you, such as their:
'Networking, Media Servers & Content Streaming'
... or possibly another subforum.

Thanks guys, yeah I had a look at avs and avforums and there does seem to be a bit more android box content. Thanks for pointing me in their direction.
