looking for a video recorder app

I want a video recording app that will start recording (even from sleep/lock mode) when I press only the camera button, and no other action.

Is there any apps that will do this?

I doubt that there is such an app - you'd have to develop one yourself.

The closest I have seen to this is the factory-installed camera app being accessible from the lock screen, on many phones.

There may be a work around to this. I guess it depends on how much you need it. Tasker is a paid app in the Play Store and it can automate or perform many tasks, in particular there was a profile that would either take a photo or video when the power button was pressed. This was a security thing so if someone picked up your device you could see who tried to open your phone. In your case I'm picturing an unpredictable situation where you would want to capture the event as it was transpiring quickly. Like a confrontation of some kind. Anyway, there's thousands of things you can do with Tasker and maybe one of the free automated apps will do this as well, but I'm really only familiar with Tasker so I can only speak to that.

An example of a profile for this would be;
Phone state: screen wake
Action: record video, rear camera, 5 minutes. Don't display capture.

So from sleep the power button, or in your case the camera button, is pressed. Nothing obvious happens on the screen but the camera records and saves 5 minutes of video. This can be done with the voice recorder as well or the front camera. When used as a security to see who's looking at your phone it obviously would be the front cam, and it doesn't have to have a time limit, that's just something I added.

Here at Android Central there's threads for Tasker and online there's a Tasker wiki where people dump profiles that can be taken directly, modified to fit another users need or used as guides to help others create their own profiles. You can get help at these places to if you have questions or get stuck.

To capture an app button press, you'd probably need one of Joao's other apps in addition to Tasker. (I don't know for sure - I never wrote a task that captured a button press.)

It's not the button press it's the event of the screen waking.

However I was wrong about being able to record video. It will take photos and record audio but I cannot find video recording. I was sure it used to but maybe it was removed, or maybe I was just wrong.

DU Recorder and many other apps from DU/DO Group were removed from the Play Store accused of ad fraud and other shady practices. I'd recommend to uninstall as soon as possible any app by those groups that could be still installed in the phone.
