Whats wrong with Google Talk?
It came on the phone, works great, cross platform, and nothing new to install.

There are at lease 6 different ios clients for it as well.

Available on every major smartphone (even Symbian!). No PC app, though.

Yes. Google Talk uses the same account information as Gmail. If you use GTalk on a computer you can chat from within Gmail or a separate GTalk client.

gtalk. works droid to pc to iphone etc.... Even has video chat that works across all platforms. Use it daily between my Bolt and my wifes iphone. gotta be most obvious solution.
