I am highly considering getting the V10 as my next phone and I'd be coming from Windows Phone. It has recently begun to let me down, it functions well as a phone, but beyond that is unreliable. This would be my first time owning an Android phone and I have a few concerns as to if it will excel in what I consider to be most important.

  1. Music:
I don't tend to stream things, I rely heavily on local music. Is there a reliable app that I can use to play MY music?
I have music videos in particular album folders, are there any easy syncing options to get my music on my phone without have to filter out these videos?
Will I have any problems with music on MicroSD card?
Is there anything about the V10 that would take away from a good experience here?
  2. Podcasts:
I like listening to podcasts in the car, will this be a problem?
Is there appropriate apps to manage this?
  3. Offline Maps:
I love "HERE Maps" in Windows Phone, especially the offline maps feature. Can this be replicated on Android?

And a couple questions for those that have made the switch from Windows Phone already.

  • Messaging Backup:
Is there a way to transfer backed up texts from Windows Phone? I often find myself referencing old texts.
Is there a similar way to backup texts via OneDrive in Android?
  • Hardware Camera Button:
For those that have had this in the past, is the transition to using the screen as bad I think it will be?

If anyone can provide input on these specific things it would be greatly appreciated.

1. Many apps, including VLC.

2. I use Pocket Casts

3. Google Maps offers offline maps now. HERE is available for Android and works better than the Windows Phone version.

4. I don't know. I've never cared about saving old SMS whenever I've switched devices.

5. I never used the hardware camera button even on my Nokia Lumia 920.

Welcome to Android. I use the G4, the V10's little brother, so I can't offer a ton of specific advice. I do like listening to podcasts in my vehicles too, and use Podkicker. It's simple and easy to use and has been a trusty app for years.

Not sure if Windows phones had this, but Android has a nanny function that will automatically lower media volume when you plug in to the AUX jack. I've read this also happens with Bluetooth, but I don't use that for media and haven't personally experienced it.

This obviously creates a problem for people that use external stereos and such with independent volume control. If I let it go, I have to basically max out the stereo volume just to get above the road noise and it also increases any electrical noise. I'm guessing the V10 will have this too. If so,I recommend something like this app.

It seems to do a good job overriding the nanny volume reduction if you like your phone at full volume when running through a stereo.

I just use my external sd card, or download stuff while on Wi-Fi. I'll sometimes stream Pandora too.
