I ended up trading my 4s for a one x.
So far its awesome. Still getting used to using a back button
Good on you, mate!... I never owned an iPhone, but I have used an iPod 4 Touch extensively and that allowed me to understand iOS, the Apple Store, iTunes, etc. I think a lot of people get too caught up with the device, as if it was the only thing, but I think looking at the wider picture and actually using a device/OS for a long enough time that you actually get to understand its limitations is crucial to understanding which one is the best. Also, as far as Android is concerned, I feel the slow ICS adoption rate makes lots of people assume Android is Gingerbread and Android Market, but things have improved dramatically really quick!
In my opinion, in a comparison between Android and iOS (might as well throw WP in), there is no contest. From its philosophy as an open OS that will not force me to choose whatever Apple or MS wish (I would HATE to be an iOS user when Google Maps disappear after iOS6), all the way to its flexibility, customizability, etc., Android is king.
First off, I am mostly a Google services user, so Android is a clear first choice because of its significantly superior support of Google Apps. On top of that, using a platform that may randomly or purposely decide to stop supporting those Google services, be it totally or partially (say Apple), is not good enough for me. That is the most important thing in my opinion and I am always amazed at how many people will buy a device as if it was a standalone thing. The way I see it, a smartphone is essentially a media/information/data consumption interface that gets most of its functionality from online services, so tight integration is critical. As such, if I was to recommend a device to a friend of mine who was heaviliy using MS services, I would recomment a WP device, not Android. Having said so, even if I consider services integration the most important criteria, I still think there are many other important arguments defining Android as the winning option. To name just a few:
- I love how I can use Google Play on any PC/browser, synch over the air without having to be using my PC/Mac, not even my Home Wifi connection. With the latest changes, all software management can be done from Google Play without having to pull my phone from my pocket... Any user who's suffered the burden of using iTunes and having to connect via cable time and again should find this the most awesome invention since sliced bread.
- I love having the ability to use apps like Swiftkey, PlayerPro or AirDroid, to name a few, which to me are game changers.
- I love having the ability to download an application like VLC knowing that Google will not kick it off of Google Play. This also applied to Adobe Flash as long as Adobe was willing to support it.
- I love the awesome connectivity between cloud and local apps, it is literally light years away from iOS.
- I love knowing that any Internet Browser (or any application having an OS native counterpart) I choose to use will be working at the very best of its capacity, allowing for a healthy competition that can only benefit Android as a whole.
There are more reasons, but those are mine!
Again, congrats and I hope you are enjoying your One X!
