Looking into the OnePlus as a potential Pixel alternative....

Yes! I had an S7 Edge and while I liked it, it just didn't do it for me.....though it was the gateway phone for me into Android land.
Haha. You know it's really funny, because when I have my Galaxy s8, at first I had thought that the pictures look amazing so colorful and I thought those colors represented real life. Then when I saw loaded the APK file for Google camera and I said as a default camera app I quickly realized that not only were they not sharp enough, but they were way way way too oversaturated. Thought to myself if I wanted overly saturated photos I'd get an iPhone. Hahaha. You're right, overly saturated pictures aren't bad, just what type of pictures you're into. Some people love that. I like crystal clear sharp but colors that are true to life. That's One of the reasons why pixels are so popular for their camera!

I really hope that the Pixel line is here to stay and that Google doesn't loose their edge in photography with the departure of those individuals. With that being said they really need to look at some of the features of OOS and see about implementing them natively into Android.

You know dude, I will agree with you. I mean with the departure of the head of computational photography as he went to Adobe, they still have their computational photography skills and knowledge, they have to improve video recording capabilities for pixels. Furthermore, I don't think that picks a lot of phones go anywhere. You're right, Google has to become a little bit more edgy and improve the camera application. Like I said photos of themselves I don't think you can do much about except for putting more camera lenses on the back of the next pixel. Video recording is where they've got to improve it. As far as one plus oxygen OS, will Google take some cues from OnePlus? Probably not. I mean if you really don't think the Pixel launcher is customizable enough for you, it's called software enhancements... You can put any other launcher on your Pixel phone. I do like the Pixel launcher. Does everything I needed to do. It is true that oxygen OS is much more customizable there's no question about that. And yes it's also true that one plus phones yet software updates pretty quickly. but I just like the immediacy and super speediness of software updates on the Pixel phones. It's all about what you want at the end today What are your needs / priorities. Lol. I mean a lot of people hated the massive notch on the Pixel 3 XL... I've always embraced it. I have a wide angle selfie camera in addition to a regular selfie camera I wish more smartphones incorporated the whining old selfie lens. Now smartphone manufacturers claim that they can take wider angle selfie pictures, but they're still not the same thing as a true wide angle selfie lens.

Recently moved to the Oneplus 8 Pro from the S20 for 1 reason - Samsung's pictures of people can come out badly in anything but good light. My daughter's bright blue eyes always look black (this was the Exynos version, Snapdragon processing is different).

Oneplus is definitely less feature rich than Samsung and is missing some things I liked about One UI, namely always on display, one handed mode and little things like being able to move the brightness slider above the quick settings, rather then below.

BUT I haven't felt the need to put Nova launcher on the Oneplus, can get it looking pretty much how I want plus gestures don't work nicely with Nova.

It's really almost perfect, just wish it had a better zoom lens and those features mentioned above.

Pixel had never been an option for me as I need Dual SIM.

I thought I was the only one who actually didn't mind the notch! What took me the longest to get around was not having a physical home button.

Haha, no, I got around physical navigation keys years and years ago with Android lol. I actually like the notch. It doesn't get in the way, it's not intrusive and I have an actual wide-angle selfie lens versus a sort of wide-angle camera angle from one main selfie camera.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I said that I loved the notch on Reddit and got downvoted into hell for it haha.

How come yeah, I could see that happening on Reddit! I don't really post anything on Reddit only because it's too confusing as a forum app to use! I love Android Central here because it's more fair people are nicer and it's more helpful and supportive. And yeah, the notch like I said is not as intrusively annoying as a lot of other users make it out to be. Most phones from two years ago even a year ago have a notch of some kind of. If you think about it, they're also a lot of people out there that think that Pixel phones are ugly and too industrial looking and only love Samsung Galaxy phones because they're beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I will admit that Galaxy phones are nice looking as well, but they're too shiny in my opinion lol.

Galaxy phones are a beauty...yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Out of all my phones I use i still think pixel camera is the better one , but Google needs to take the next step they look a little confused right now.

Agreed. Google needs to bring it! Their camera experience is the best I've used thus far.

Yeah, Google needs to amp it up a little bit and show what the really capable of doing!
You should be getting pretty fast updates
Yeah updates are really fast!

Yep yep, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I mean I've seen the shiny reflective colors of the new Galaxy phones and they look great don't come wrong. But I like the way that Pixel phones look from a design standpoint. Understated, sort of industrialized. I'm seeing rumors of the Pixel 5's bringing back the rear mount to fingerprint scanner as well. That's a great idea! That's one of the main features of my 3XL that I love so so much!

I got the OnePlus 8 a month or so ago, and so far I love it! I think the camera is very good and will certainly do the job, but it's not the best one available by any means. The first thing I noticed about the phone is that it's just blazing fast. Even the V50, while no slouch, didn't feel this snappy. Also it is extremely customizable, especially compared to my LG phones.
