Lookout Mobile Security

I used it previously with the HD2. Ive never had any problems with it. Works as advertised. I dont think its really necessary on an EVO though if thats what you have.

Why is Lookout free. Everything it offers, and it is free. How does the company make money? They have servers to pay for to upload. Where do they get their money? Is it safe to upload all that information?

Same way a lot of quality apps are free. They use ads or donations or have other paid apps. Notoriety can pay off in the long run. Think Astro wouldn't make a ton if they went paid?

I decided to try it. I was worried about it being a battery hog. Worse case scenario is that I uninstall the app. I read all the disclaimers and review about Lookout, and everything I have read says it is great, even if there may not be any virus right now. Good other features also, backup and loss protection.

I dont know about Lookout in particular.

But most devs make alot of money from AD-MOB ( think google ads for your mobile phone) Youll see in alot of free apps a small advertisement or banner on one of the screens.

As Painkiller said, notoriety works too..

Look at LogMeIn. They offer a free ad-less service, but over time they create a deluxe paid version with more features that people will migrate to.. Or in logmein's case they just take away stuff from the free version and force you to buy paid if you relied on it.
