Is this app good and is it worth $2 a month for premium services? Or is there Any other apps that are better then this one?

What do you need Lookout for???

I use Antivirus Free to scan new downloads... and Seek Droid to find my device if it's ever lost... Seek Droid is $0.99, and Antivirus Free is free... no month charges.

I've used it for awhile and the free version works fine. Although I'll probably drop it. I din't believe it's really necessary.

I use the free version of Lookout. It scans apps as they are downloaded and can perform a scan of the entire device when you so desire. It also can locate your phone should the need arise. One app for both purposes.

Long and the short, I would keep the free version of Lookout.

+1, and I agree that it doesn't really seem necessary in the grand scheme of things. The 'missing device' feature is included in the free version as well, though (it'll even sound an alarm with your phone set to silent/vibrate), and since it doesn't really affect space or battery I'll probably leave it for that.

+1 SeekDroid

LookOut caused my phone to freak out with text messages.

.99 one time fee is better than a monthly premium & i can do all the things LO can do.
if i want to scan for a virus, i'll just download Norton/AVG.

SeekDroid can activate the GPS, show location on map, sound alarm (even if muted volume), hide the app on the phone so any thief won't know its installed--and make it uninstallable through the phone interface, and remotely lock/wipe the phone (including wiping the SD card)

But the premium let's you like remotely wipe or lock your phone if its stolen or lost

So does Seek Droid... and it only cost $0.99... and NO monthly charge... look back at Post #2 ^^^

You can remote wipe the device data and the SD card... plus lock it and send an message to the person that finds it... and remote loud ring if you lost it in the house, even in Silent mode.

Part of what he is asking is if lookout is worth it as an app... if the answer ends up being yes, then maybe it's worth the premium to have it all in one app. If the answer is no the seek droid is probably the answer.

Another benefit of seekdroid is the last 10 numbers called/received.
I would hand that right to the police if anything happened.

True... but since the first post this was the only information we've received from the OP:

And IMHO, $2 a month is too much for "remotely wipe or lock your phone if its stolen or lost" when there are others that will do this for a lot less and not have a monthly cost.

So I guess this is up to what the OP considers worth the price.

$2 a month *cough* Oh yea! Well I just uninstalled lookout and I already had seek droid installed and signed up for, how about them apples! :p

Ok, so if you want a little free anti-virus action sure... not at all worth a monthly payment when it's really not needed.

Reading the whole way through brought another thought to mind...I have an activesync exchange account on my phone. The account forces a password policy of 15 minutes and activesync is capable of the remote wipe.

So for me, Lookout works fine. For those not using activesync, it sounds like seek droid is the best choice.

Question... can you turn on your GPS using ActiveSync and find out where your phone is located, or remotely have your phone ring even if it's on Silent mode???

Lookout also backs up camera pics online.

I use the free version. It's been working well on my Thunderbolt.

Nope. But I can with the free version of Lookout. So I will stick with that. I see no reason for me to pay.

I'm curious to know why you feel that any proram such as these is not needed? Should we not protect our phones from all the nasties out there?

I think the general consensus is that said nasties can be avoided by reading Market reviews, checking (and double-checking) permissions when installing, and just using common sense overall. Of course, if you have children playing with your phone on occasion, or if you just want that extra peace of mind, an app like this couldn't hurt. :)
