Looks like Unrevoked3 got the 2.2 Root

can you guys please post links when you say stuff like that. i cant find what our sayin. all i can find is this --> public:unrevoked2 [RootWiki]. but it clearly says "At this time, unrevoked3 does NOT work on stock Froyo (Android 2.2) phones"

thanks in advance

That is because the developers pulled the release about an hour after they posted it due to bugs. I will not post it because they pulled it for a reason. (I admit I was tempted, but my initial gut feeling and the mutual opinion of a few other forum members I respect convinced me not to.)

I got it to work but it was not "1 click easy" on Vista or XP. (Though I did get it to work on XP eventually.)

Be patient, it will come back and it will work much better.

You may find it elsewhere if you search for it. However, I would advise waiting for the official re-release.

Sorry, it sounded as if he just did it. Like there was an alternate way. I miss read it. My bad.

I'm happy to report that the release candidate (after the Evo bugs were found) currently hosted at the IRC channel works great on the Incredible. I was able to install the Wifi Tether app and remove all the bloatware from VZW and HTC. I'm a happy camper :)

This is basically what i want to do. remove the bloat ware, install the better radio, and have the phone be anything i want it to be, as Android was supposed to become.

Ok. For the benefits of noobs like me who recently got their hands on unrevoked 3.2. Below are the steps I followed:

First steps you need to do before you start
1) Backup any data you might have in the phone's memory storage either to the SD card or into the computer (Must set phone's connection to "Hard Drive").

2) Download the Android SDK:
Android SDK | Android Developers

3) Download unrevoked 3.2 (still in "release candidate" form, so I won't post link).

4) Follow this video (depending on whether you have Windows or Mac)
a) How-to Video for Windows:
YouTube - Droid Incredible - One Click Root

b) How-to video for Mac:

DISCLAIMER: I provide the information above "as is". If you mess up, it is entirely your fault; follow instructions closely. For Windows there is an extra step (downloading/installing Hboot). I did my installation on a Mac, which doesn't require any extra steps. I got confirmation from a fellow forum member who was able to use the instructions (and videos) above successfully.

The link below, has instructions on how to remove the bloatware:
Howto: Root the HTC Droid Incredible - Technology - Jonamerica.com

Cheers!

there was only one mistake i made. while watchin the youtube video for windows, at 7:00 i didnt get the the phone in time to select "install zip from sd" and never installed the "ap-inc.zip file. but after the phone rebooted i realized i missed that and i went to astro and found the file and extracted it.......

sooo everything is fine obviously and i am the superuser but am just wondering about that one step i goofed up on.

This is perfect! Just one question. When you say "2) Download the Android SDK:3) Download unrevoked 3.2" are you talking about downloading this to the PC or to the phone?
...
Thanks in advance!

Download both to your PC. Once the HBOOT drivers are loaded onto the phone just follow the instruction in the youtube video posted. Worked perfectly.

BTW I got all drivers working in one try on Vista.

Glad it worked for you! I couldn't provide more instructions regarding PCs (Windows-based) since I did mine on a Mac, but hopefully the video was clear.

I am thinking of doing the Root thing, Im an advanced windows PC user, But Major Noob in android, So I got a few questions,

When rooted do you loose HTC sense?
If so does any miss sense? not really sure what sense really does since the dinc is my first and only smart phone.

After a dinc is rooted and it be un-rooted? and is it harder to un-root?

From reading this post, I gather that the main reason to root is to remove bloatware and get wifi tether without having to pay big red?

Is there any other major advantage to rooting?

sry if these questions are stupid, dont mean to bug ya's, just want to make sure i know whats going on before I make my first base jump ;)
Thanks
