Looks like we are starting to see why the Nexus 7 is so cheap

All products that are mass produced have lemons occur in the production runs - even Apple stuff (like my Macbook Pro where the logic board was faulty resulting in the fans never going on because the temperature sensor was not sending accurate temps to the CPU - result was a laptop where the logic board eventually burned up and I got my hand burned to boot).

Apple has been having issues with their damn logic boards for as long as I can remember. Went down this mess with them with two different laptops: orignal purchase and the replacement laptop. I did not have one as nice as you did/do, I had the iBook, but man talk about issues and of course apple's stance, "you must be using it wrong", Walnut Creek Store "genius" actually said that to me.

Except only small number of people have it now because most of us were stupid and bought it from Google play. That ratio of people, those that have it vs. those having problems, is a little high. I mean there's almost no other threads other than either those people angry for the shipping fiasco or hardware problems!

Not defending the hardware but what you've said is pure speculation. There are no numbers to back up a high ratio. Pretty much every flagship phone launch we see the same posts of certain hardware issues. Sure it's good to discuss these reports but we must hold off on speculating on the numbers.

It is simply too early to tell.

I have no hardware issues with my new N7. Works perfectly as expected.

Agreed, this is a common occurrence. If you get a bum unit just return it.

Yet this is where the problem is, it's not so easy for someone who purchased a N7 from the big G:
1. Customer service long holds
2. If you ever get through, you have to request RMA
3. Wait for RMA
4. Ship
5. Wait
6. Receive
7. inspect and confirm it's in good working order

If it's still having issues, repeat.

I have three units here, all are great. I think they are much better than the two primes I returned to ASUS, and these are only a third of the price. Very happy here.....

In order to determine build quality issues you have to have enough of a sample to get a fair idea of overall quality.

If you sell 1000 units of the same product, and the first 10 have different problems that's 100% of the first 1% of the run with issues. Statistically unlikely but certainly not impossible. The numbers at this point are skewed and may seem either lower or higher than they actually are. Wait until the preorders are done shipping, and give the community some time to get feedback, then you've got enough information to make an accurate assessment of overall build quality.

If a large portion of the users were having the same problem, that would be much more alarming than people with different issues. You simply don't have enough information.. yet..

Ok, I was just worried because it was different kinds of defects.

That's good actually. If there were a lot of people complaining about the same defect, I'd worry about some widespread problem. If some people have this problem, some have that problem, it's perfectly normal. Our sample size here is so incredibly small, and "error reporting" is anything but organized.

People with problems tend to speak up more than those without. Not to mention, first runs tend to have more problems. Welcome to early adoption. There are some instances where mass production reveals problems that don't show when you make limited runs. Issues like that will be fixed too. It's the world of product manufacturing. I'm quite confident this is just the 0.3% with their issues. If you are that unfortunate, return it. Buy a new one. This will all die down.

couldn't have said it better myself. seeing 3 threads here and there with concerns don't mean a damn thing.

Mine is solid and I haven't experienced any problems yet. I'm quite impressed actually. I'm assuming my preorder unit will be the same when it arrives this week.

Please close this thread. Have you never heard of defective products? They happen for every major release of any product that can be defective. Only because you see a thread where a few people have defective units, doesn't mean overall the Nexus 7 is a pile of crap.

Same here. If it's defective, take it back. Minor problems by individuals does not determine the entire line of N7's are all defective.

I'm really not too worried about any defects. As stated above, there are always some issues at launch for any electronics. Most will be just fine, and a few will have problems and can be returned. It's a game of roulette for us early adopters. I'm fine with that.

Maybe Google or Asus noticed these defects on the Play orders and thats what the delay was.. That would be awesome if Play orders reported no problems. "Crossing FingerS"

Because it would be a btch to have to return back to google. Much easier to do so at a B & M.

What problems are you talking about? Where are the complaints? Only one I've seen with a REAL problem was a screen with the glass issue. The other issue sound like stupid people who don't know what there doing.

I haven't had or noticed a single problem either. The build quality seems strong. It also runs like a dream!

I enjoy mine but I do have an iPad 3 and as much as I love the nexus I just don't know if I "need" it! But for the money it's a great product. In my opinion its hands down the best android tablet to date.

Glad to hear these positive responses!

How are dead pixels something that someone wouldn't know about? You don't have to be tech savvy to notice pixels that aren't working.
