Loosing 3G signal

So I'm sitting at work trying to download my usual podcasts, and I'm having a terrible time getting them to download fully, if at all. Then I start noticing that after letting the phone sleep for a minute or so, that's when it terminates the connection. Related? No clue. There are no radio limiting apps installed, to my knowledge, at this time.

What I'm getting this morning is a loss of 3G connectivity in a place where it has never been in an issue. it's bumping down to the 1x icon and moving at a speed reminiscent of my old t-mo original sidekick... It's killing me.

I tried updating the PRL several times but it timed out and said it couldn't be done. Finally it went through but it is still dropping 3G. I'm not sure how much the PRL has to do with the data connection, but I gave it a shot anyway. The reception for phone antenna has been normal and I've not seen any significant drop or loss there.

Could it be just a bad day for Sprint and they're having troubles with the data side of the house? I thought that too but my buddy with an EVO a couple cubes away is doing just fine. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Now it's getting hung up while attempting to update the profile as well. Anytime I try to open an app the access the data connection, it drops connectivity to 1x or just completely losses data all together.

Is this worth calling customer service over? Since it would be the first time calling them since I rooted, will they be able to tell that I'm not stock?

hey i have had the same problem since for a week almost too. But On my EVO, and the EPIC on my account. I use the evo and its KILLING!!!! me I can BARELY sent texts... take FOREVER to send pics (and I have to enable and disable wifi to force it through somehow). And a lot of apps and stuff say "no network connection" etc. and can not do much. I have been really really busy lately so it has not effected me alot, but i know it will soon. I have been thinking of calling CS too.

EDIT: BTW I am in El Paso TX, and both phones are rooted. I had seen that sprint had an outage about 4 days BEFORE I actually started having the problem. I thought it was my phone so I flashed a new ROM and didnt fix it. the "1X" is the only thing that shows and i NEVER get 3G ever.

UPDATE: I finally got to talk to sprint and they said there is an "outage" in the area and not to worry about it LOL i got made and told her yes i was worried about it because I havent been able to used my phone for a week and its pissing me off and Im asking for a refund when my bill comes.

Also, it turns out they are reducing 3G coverage. There are a few post around here about it, and even on the sprint site.. check it out

Sprint Community: Voice and 3G coverage being drastically...

Very interesting on that Sprint coverage maps... I would like to think they have to have something on the back burner, can't see Sprint going under all the sudden. They have had some very successful phones that have obviously made them some big profits. Not to mention Sprint is also the official #1 sponser/name of Sprint Cup Series (Nascar) which has to also be pulling in big numbers for them too...

Let's hope this is a planned change to something better.

I gotta say, its not looking good for sprint. I can't stand my coverage right now. It was fine a month ago, but now I'm noticing the data go down to 1x a lot. I have 4G outside my apartment, but it drops every 15 seconds or so, making it pretty pointless. I am switching to vzw, just wish there was a better selections on LTE handsets as there is no way in hell I'm going back to samsung. The dev community just isn't there and I'm tired of the current developers saying, "be patient" when they haven't made progress in months. (I like you Paul, your ROM just WORKED, which is awesome). I really do miss the support the Hero got. I've played with the T-bolt, and its nice, but too buggy for me. I'd love to play with a rooted one, but I don't even know another person that likes to root and rom their phones, much less seen a person in the wild with a t-bolt. I fear the LG revolution is going to get the same problem the Epic and other galaxy s phone and not have much of a following. The hardware isn't stellar, but its probably got better battery-life than the T-bolt since the kernel isn't done by HTC (by far the worst kernel writers). Nothing else slated for vzw other than the mythical Bionic, which would be worth the jump if they unlock the bootloader.

My phone as been dropping to 1x a lot lately also. I am not sure if this would help but since I flashed SRF/BS kernel I have been unable to update my phone's profile or PRL. Is this a common issue with flashing ROM's? Any fix available?

The PRL/Profile update has been an issue since Eclair 2.1 (DI18). Stock, custom it doesn't matter. For some reason now for the last few weeks I can't update my PRL either regardless of which ROM I'm running. Prior to that I never had a problem updating... Its a problem on Sprint's end, not ours.

Last night our babysister came over for awhile to hang out with her little one, anyways she just picked up the Thunderbolt back a few weeks ago. I was playing around with it and its a very nice phone, battery life is horrible... She literally goes everywhere with her wall jack charger because its that bad.

Anyways.. I'm holding her TB in my hand getting a almost perfect 4g signal and then my Epic 4g in my other hand and no hopes of 4g (never really get it in my neighborhood because were about 1 mile out of 4g range) and 3g was about 3 out of 4 bars...

That is unfortunate... I really hope Sprint gets things moving in the right direction, after 8 plus years with Sprint I really hate to start thinking about going elsewhere when contract time comes up. Worst part is you look at Chicagoland area where I live it has been and still is a VERY heavily saturated area for Sprint coverage so why the signal quality is not that good and our 4g isn't as good as it should be really surprises me...

You would really think if there is a problem with Sprint going belly up or something they wouldn't be putting all the effort into everything they have over the last year or two...

Have any of you thought about calling Sprint and getting the AIRAVE? It fixes the reception issues at home!

I got one... I'm not a huge fan of it. While I like that I finally have service in my apartment, it seems to fail a lot. It also likes to break my home internet connection where I have to reboot the modem and router. I also don't like how its supposed to be directly connected to your modem and then go to the router instead of just feeding off the router. The GPS loses connection, despite it having the antenna and unit on the window sill.

I have an airwave, but it does NOTHING with this outage. Even with my AIRAVE I SOMETIMES get 1X. Normally it works GREAT at my house. Full bars, 3G all the time, but with this outage the AIRAVE does nothing. Which is weird because its based off the internet usage, but somehow it is not working with whatever this problem is. Now sometimes i get 1X, but alot of times its nothing. I cant do anything its pissing me off. And It makes me mad because its EVERYWHERE, not just my house. Im surprised a city this big and they ahve let the problem go on for this long......

I am going out of town this week so I will see if I get better service when im out of town just to prove that it is not my phone and that its the service in the area. Im going to call SPRINT from the area Im in and say the service is working there and ask again when the service will be fixed in my area.

I really want to stay with Sprint and get the Evo 3D, but if things dont get better then I will ride out more of my contract and move over to Verizon. I hate to say it but I there is no point in have a very capable phone connected to an un-capable network.

I dont liek the Verizon phones that much, but If it means the difference between having good service then I will make the sacrifice. The only reason I have not switch over right now is because I have 5 phones on my accoutn and that would be REALLY expensive to pay early termination as they all have AT LEAST 1 year left on contract.

Just a few tests for kicks while still running the EC05 modem.

3g stinks as you can see, 4g when I get into range isn't bad at all but take all this with a grain of salt like any benchmark/speed test pgm.

My 3G is a bit worse than yours but I don't recall it being much different with EB13.

I am running SRF...can I change back to EB13 with this ROM? If so, is there a zip to flash in CWM?
