Losing cell, Wi-Fi won't come back.

This started happening a couple days ago. The symbol beside the phone strength bars goes to a G, but it acts like I don't have signal at all. Airplane mode toggle sometimes stays in the notification drop down, sometimes goes away. If I try toggling it or turning off Wi-Fi, I can't get it to turn back on. A simple restart doesn't do anything, but holding power and volume up seems to reset it and make it work for a while.
This has been happening once or twice a day that I've noticed. Any suggestions?

I tried wiping the cache, so we'll see what happens. Thank you!

Did it again. Since I had some time to kill, I went to VZW and got a new SIM. So far so good.

Started doing it again. Tried safe mode, it lost signal for a bit, but came back. Looks like a factory reset is in my future.

In the safe mode link, it says to try different apps to help set what is causing it, but all of my 3rd party apps are disabled.

Well, that eliminates the SIM card itself as a problem. It could still be a hardware issue with the phone's cell radio or antenna.

Most phones won't allow you to enable a 3rd party app while in Safe Mode. What you'd have to do is boot back into normal mode and uninstall apps one by one, seeing if the problem persists after each uninstall. It's pretty tedious, I know. Or you could do a factory reset, and see if the problem persists before you install any 3rd party apps.

Well, crap. Did a factory reset, all was well for a couple hours, installed hangouts, Facebook and opera. Still fine for another hour or 2 then it happened again.

What happens if you uninstall Facebook and Opera?

(Honestly, it sounds like faulty hardware. Are you still under warranty?)

Symbol going to "G" I believe means that the phone is trying to connect to a GSM network because it can't connect to a CDMA/LTE network. That's definitely not good in the US (it's meant for people who travel internationally, where GSM is frequently found and CDMA rarely is. I don't think that Verizon roams to any of the US GSM networks.)

I uninstalled them both, so we'll see.

Unfortunately, I was one of the early adopters, early December '14. So no warranty.

Sent the phone back to Moto today. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for them to fix or send a refurb back to me.

The VZW store was actually very helpful. I went in asking if they had an old box I could have, saying that I had to send the phone back. They not only gave me a box, but grabbed some packing material and let me use their tape gun too.

Got a refurb today. Packing slip said something about unrepairable, housing. It's working good so far, best part is new everything so no scratches, under warranty, even though it was 1 1/2 years old.
