Losing data connection since mr2 update

Re: Losing 4G since mr2 update

Ok. But I don't how you're going to rule out the SIM card by not even trying it. There's really very little risk in it. I've pulled mine multiple times without issue. And it DID resolve my issue after flashing the MR2 RUU. I’ve read where it has for others too. It's all about a process of elimination. Until you go through that, you'll never be able to isolate where the problem is in order to get it fixed. Just saying... :)

Sounds like you're rooted. I'm not. Maybe that is why it worked for you. If you are rooted you are also more of a risk taker than I.

My problem is so sporadic I suspect a software rather than a hardware issue. If the problem becomes.more frequent I will try it.

The fact it didn't work for tex convinced me not worth taking the chance. What you see as easy and risk free really isn't when I've never done it and have broken computer card slots in the past trying to insert a card in them. Sometimes I try to force things when I shouldn't. Other times I don't press hard enough to install something. Sometimes I put things in crooked. A man has to know his limitations.

Re: Losing 4G since mr2 update

Nope, not rooted. I just downloaded the official MR2 RUU (Rom Update Utility) and flashed the phone with it. I then did a factory data reset just to clear the slate, but still had trouble holding onto data. So, after reading the tip on pulling the SIM, I tried it and I've been rock solid ever since. :)

There's a good example. For me to do.a.factory reset and have to reinstall and configure all my apps is a friggin disaster. For many it's no biggie.
I know what it is - I'm lazy!

If you are unwilling to even try simple suggestions posted on here, you probably shouldnt even post your issues on here. Just deal with your phone the way it is or call Verizon. The suggested attempted fix can have absolutely no bad effect on your phone whatsoever. Pulling the battery and SIM card is like the simplest thing to try in the world.

Sorry you feel that way. For me "simple" would be to change some setting. I just don't like messing with hardware. If my problem becomes more frequent I may try it. Part of the reason for a post is to see if others have the same defect or if it is a unique issue requiring a replacement phone.

As I said...if the frequency of the problem becomes more often I will try pulling the card.

Re: Losing 4G since mr2 update

My connectivity problems are sporadic so there is no way I could show them to a rep.

You might not need to SHOW them to a rep. I called Verizon twice on Thursday about my data connectivity issue, and on the second call, they offered to send me a new phone. (They use the term "new" liberally BTW.)

I'm convinced that every one of those refurbs is someone else's returned phone. Someone turns it on , says, " Yup it works" then sends it out as is.

Re: Losing 4G since mr2 update

I'm having exactly the same issue and am getting really frustrated with it. My phone didn't randomly reboot much before the update, but now I am having to reboot at least twice a day due to these data connectivity issues.

I'm not rooted. I have tried a factory reset twice as well as SIM pulls. I'm about ready to call VZW and demand a new phone, not someone elses returned garbage. If I still have problems, I will do it again and if it happens a third time, I will probably apply the lemon law and demand a phone change. I like my TB, and have defended it, but this is getting really annoying.

Thanks for chiming in. this is a software issue and nothing we do will fix it. Many folks don't use the net often enough to notice it. It never happened to me before the mR2 update. I'm sure the issue CAUSED the reboot. Now they shut off the reboot without correcting the issue that was causing them in the first place. I hope you do call Verizon about it because their engineers will not work with HTC on a fix until enough people complain to them. The first 10,000 complaints on an issue are ignored until they are finally convinced it isn't the stupid user's fault.

Ironically the cure for our problem IS a reboot so the "fix" is now simply manual instead of automatic!

It wouldn't surprise me if some genius wrote software to shut off data access every so many gb in an attempt to block those illegally tethering or using mobile hs without paying.

Good luck with that brand new phone idea. If its a tb I see no reason to assume it won't have the same problem.

Re: Losing 4G since mr2 update

Have you tried the battery and SIM card pull for at least three minutes to force it to reprovision itself on next power on? After flashing the MR2 RUU, I initially had trouble holding onto a data signal. Once I did the battery/SIM pull, it's been rock solid, even the few times I've been in LTE.

VZ is over-nighting a new sim card for the wife's phone to try to solve this problem. Did a factory reset today on the clnr she got 4 days ago that didn't solve this problem. Actually the HS seems to be triggering her woes. Her original TB never would hold the HS feature from 5/16 when she got it and they convinced her not to return during the 14 day trial period. What a mistake, should have reactivated our Droids and shoved the contracts up VZs rear. My TB is great, but hers has been a nightmare.

They promised her a "new" phone in June but when she found out it would be a clnr she cancelled it hoping the update would fix her problem, but it didn't. On 7/13 they agreed to let her trade her TB in on a "new" Charge but 4 days later sent us notification that that deal had been cancelled by a supervisor. Instead they sent her a clnr that froze during the initial boot operation and hasn't been any better than the first phone.

She has been in the corporate store so many times that they hide when they see her coming. Now we are dealing with a really nice tech out of SLC, but according to him none of her store visits have been documented in the computer, even though several involved factory resets with tech support on the phone from the store.

My HS works fine, but hers loses connection and has to be reset as often as every 5 minutes. What a piece of ****. She is so upset now she won't even talk to them anymore.

Well obviously my software to stop hs connection theory is shot then. Just poor HTC quality. I'm surprised you haven't given her your phone. Then you could.go in and raise heck for a change.

It's odd....I frequently get better service on the phone than in the store. That business of promising to send a charge then sending a cslr tb instead is totally bogus.

My phone is nowhere near as bad as your wife's. I only lose data once every couple of days. That's why I don't dare bring it back to Verizon. I'm afraid I'd end up with one like your wife's.

I never realized how good the Droid was but this is a great phone when it works.

I wanted to give her my phone, but I use it for work and can't get into a store for service or replacement. I'm usually gone 6 to 8 weeks at a time and then home a week. I leave again next Monday morning and plan to have this taken care of before I leave.

I'm glad I'm not the VZW rep who has to face you! They've definitely given your wife the runaround. It's a shame. Be sure to check back in and let us know how you make out.
I'm lucky I only need my phone for fun. I do use it a little for work but a don't really need to.

Don't get me wrong, RecDNA, I do like the TB. Anyone who has watched me post has seen that I have encouraged people to be patient about the updates, but now I am about at the end of my rope. The repeated loss of data is really frustrating. I just want a phone that works the way it is supposed to. If I can get a TB that will do that, I will be happy, but if they can't provide that after a reasonable number of attempts, then I want to try that.

I will be calling them sometime this morning. I anticipate that they will tell me to do a reset and I will tell them I've done it as well as a battery and sim pull. In any case, we will see.

Having the same issues, headed to the store to get a new SIM card. Doubt it will fix the issue, but after I try that and it doesn't work, they agreed to send a new phone. We will see, I hate going into and back out of airplane mode or rebooting multiple times a day!

Instead of rebooting, you can actually fix the issue by adding the "Settings - Mobile Network" widget and just toggle the mobile network on -> off -> and back on. This is faster than the Airplane mode toggle.

I was doing this so often before official MR2, I put the widget on my home screen. For some reason, I no longer have this problem once I upgraded to the official MR2. I was having the problem even on the leaked MR2.

BTW, if you dial *#*#4636#*#*, go into the "Phone Information" page and then "Run ping test", the problem is that Http Client test will return IOException: Fail. It will also show you the signal strength. For example, I am getting -70dBm. I recommend you examine your signal strength the next time you have trouble with your data connection.

How do you get out of that mode once in it?

If a good signal is.-70 what is a bad signal?

If the signal IS bad what do u do about it?

In my case I doubt the signal is really bad since reset gets it back.

That widget usually works.but if I am using America online radio (AOR) it freezes in that app when no signal so I can't get to the on-screen to toggle. That's why I use reset.

UPDATE: Installed the new sim card and TB lost data twice in the first 30 minutes then again a couple times over the next 3 hours. I reset the first couple times, but the phone seemed to recover signal itself later... This really has me confused.

The VZ tech is calling me back tonight, we'll see what's next. He has been great, by the way.

I finally worked up the ambition to do the sim card and battery pull last night. Lost data a couple of times but app didn't jam as before and data returned on its own without a reset.
