Losing Favorites in Contacts is only 1 gripe with latest update

Used to have all my favorite contacts easily accessible at the top of Text Messaging for easy operation. No longer available. Now we have to scroll down (and I seem to have lost a bunch of my favorites from the list)

The new colors - or lack thereof - are pathetic.

Drop down notifications are impossible to decipher. And the new look for the phone and keypad are also very unappealing, just like the ridiculous looking oval background shape to all my icons and apps.

Wish they'd just stick to back-end upgrades and leave the look alone. We get used to it and then they mess it all up and make it look worse.

What device? These complaints seem to be common with other Samsung device owners that got the Nougat update.

Keep in mind - this is a SAMSUNG thing. The build of Nougat as released to Nexus and Pixel devices had few differences in these areas compared to Marshmallow.

I should clarify. The interface design is very much a Samsung thing. The colors, styles, etc. The "People" or contacts app sounds like it's different from the "stock" version, and it sounds like you're using a Samsung messaging app (which likely got a makeover for Nougat).

On almost any non-Google device, it's likely that much of what you interact with was changed from the way it is on Google-branded devices.

Give the Google Contacts app a try. Try other messaging apps. That's the great thing about Android - you are in no way tied to the apps that are installed when you get the device, you can go find others that work the way you want them to and use those instead, even for your default apps for those functions. You can get different keyboards to change the look of that interface, you can get different launchers to change the look of many interface elements (though the notification shade may not change with that).

This is terrible - I have Galaxy 7. I want my Favorites back. To get them I have to open Contacts App, and go to Groups and select Starred on Android. And when they show up they are not in my own order as before.

AND, not all my contacts show up on the Contacts list in my phone. What is going on?! Maybe it is only showing a certain group. But my wife is on all groups and she does not show on the list. I have to search for her. This is nuts.

More things:
In the phone Contacts section the first items are Create contact and Share Profile. They take up have the screen before the list starts.
