Losing Mobile Newtork since SkyRaider 2.5.2 / Radio 2.05

From my understanding you can flash any radio. only thing is you will just always have s-off.

So how did ##778 work?

I'm made two changes today; updated the kernel and changed the security settings in ##778.

##778
Edit mode
000000
Security
HDR User ID (it didn't have my phone number listed as I believe it should so I changed it to area code number @vzw3g.com)
PPP User I'D (made the same change as above)
S.IP Dun User Name (made the same change as above)
Menu
Commit modifications
Reboot

And so far the 3g has been more stable. I'll know more at work on Monday

My PRL is 40066

Just checked my phone. My phone number is listed in those too. Your connection must have been really bad. Let us know how it is on monday

I would have to do unrevoked forever to move to the 2.15 radio right? I'm not opposed to trying that if I can't revert back it there are issues.

Yes you have to install unRevoked forever to flash the 2.15 radio. However with that being said once you flash unRevoked forever you can swap to any radio you want at any time. Just remember once you forever your phone it will be permanently s-off unlocked. Which isn't a bad thing, I doubt Verizon is going to boot into hboot to make sure you didn't s-off the phone!

ok gotcha. I have just rooted, forever, and radio 2.15. I have not seen a difference. my battery life has always sucked. Even before I rooted and everything my mobile connection would drop randomly at work.

My co worker has the same phone but has a verizon plan so he has different PRLs then me. That is why I think it is the PRLs that we are on for the Alltel plan. My PRL is 4066

My PRL is 40066. I have an extra zero. I wonder if that means anything.

My PRL Capability (PRL Type) is IS-683C
My PRL Capability (Perfer Only) is Disable
My PRL Capability (Default Roaming Indicator) is 0

I might give 2.15 a try. As long as I do a nandriod back up I can recovery back if 2.15 doesn't work well on my phone, correct? Would the nandroid backup take me back to S-on as well?

No NANDROID backups only backup your O/S installation. Think of it as a computer. When you run backups it saves your windows installation, meanwhile the bios (radio) of the computer isn't touched.

So no nandroid will not restore s-on. However with S-on you would not be able to roll back to 2.05 if 2.15 didn't work well for you but with S-off you can since revision checking is turned off.

And with the PRL stuff, granted I'm on Verizon not Alltel, is:

PRL ID: 51920
PRL Type: IS-683C
PRL Prefer Only: Enable
Roaming Indicator: 68

Maybe this helps? Wonder if your Prefer Only being disabled has anything to do with it?

Radio = Bios, makes much more sense to me. I wasn't sure exactly what function the radio played but it is little clearer now.

I'm interested to see what the other Alltel poster's PRL info is to see if his set up is like mine with the PRL Perfer Only disabled and the Roaming indicator.

I do have to say since the Kernel update and the Setting updates in ##778, I haven't had the issue of losing Mobile network. THe phone is running much faster. I did a speedtest with the speedtest.net app and on wifi I'm getting almost 10162 kbps down and 6427 kbps up and at my friend's house where they have full verizon signal (-48dBm) I got 2072 kbps down and 886 kbps up. Which is way faster then I used to get before. The wifi speed is faster then my laptop on wifi.

If I could get the signal bump with the 2.15 radio here at home that would be great. My 3g here at home is not very strong so my 3g speedtest.net test is 679 kbps down and 493 kpbs up my signal strength is -96dbm here at home.

Here is my PRL info. 3 things are different from Qazme. One of which we know would be different the PRL ID since we are on Alltel.

PRL ID: 40066
PRL Type: IS-683C
PRL Prefer Only: Disable
Roaming Indicator: 0

I wonder if the last 2 have something to do with it. I wonder what other Alltel people have. I am starting to think a lot of the battery issues are coming from old alltel people that still have the Alltel plan.

Your PRL info is the exact same PRL info I have. I had great battery life until I did the root Rom radio update. I did go to the 2.15 radio and I did it primarily for the boost in signal. yesterday I also updated my kernel to kingxkernel #2 which should provide better battery life. I can tell the difference in performance since the kernel update. The phone is much more responsive and faster all around. I'll know more on if the kernel change has helped with battery life today as I will be out and about for most of the day. Either way I haven't experienced the issues I was having with losing mobile network at all yesterday and hopefully I won't have any issues at work on Monday.

This is an update on my battery life since installing the Kingxkernel #2.

I installed the new kernel on Saturday evening and Sunday I noticed much better battery life. I was at 18 hours and 30 minutes off the charger and still had 38% battery left. I have the 1750 Seidio battery and I did not do the bump charge. I am noticing it takes longer to charge the battery. When I plugged the phone in to charge when it was at 38% my juiceplotter widget showed it would take 2hrs15mins to charge. I didn't actually time it but it was pretty close to that time. I was using the OEM wall charger for part of that and moved to my car charger for my drive in to the office and then finished it off on my old BB charger at work.

Since being here at work I haven't lost my mobile network which was an issue for me last week. I think the fix for that was updating the security settings in ##778 which didn't get updated correctly after I installed the SR 2.5.2 ROM.

I downloaded CPUset and bumped it up to 1.113 and everything is running smooth and haven't had any rebooting issues. I got 1369 on Quadrant which isn't bad at all.

Thanks for all the help. :-)

I rooted (Unrevoked 3) and went to SkyRaider 2.5.2 Sense and the 2.05 radio over the weekend. At home, I noticed improvement in my wireless network range after the upgraded radio. However, now that I am back at work, where I typically saw worse mobile network strength before the upgraded radio/ROM, I have noticed that it is worse than before (where I could typically get a very weak signal I no longer get one at all, AND I have noticed my phone going in and out of 3G where I typically get decent 3G service). When I saw the "1G" symbol on my phone, I cycled airplane mode and 3G came back. I'm going to keep an eye on it as maybe I'm just paranoid after reading these posts.

I am new to Verizon so it's not an Alltel thing. I am interested to understand more about the ##778 solution. I have no idea what this means or how to do it. Is it helping you? Or should I root to Unrevoked Forever and go to the 2.15 radio?

Thanks
