Since the 5.1 update my Nexus 6 on Sprint loses a connection a few times per day. I get an exclamation point. I have read this is specific to users of Sprint and T-mobile. I use Sprint. To correct this.. rather than restart the phone I activate airplane mode for a couple seconds. I was REALLY hoping that the 5.1.1 update would correct this. Nope. I have seen posts for this on the Google forum, but so far no solutions or solid reasons why it only affects Sprint and T-mobile devices. As I stated before.. this started AFTER the 5.1 update. Thoughts?

I'm on Virgin Mobile in ontario Canada and I had the same issue, especially at work when connected to WiFi with cellular data turned off. Somewhere I found that if you manually set your network carrier provider, instead of select automatically this solved my connection issues and severe lagging in all programs! Just updated to 5.1.1 and now smooth as silk for my Nexus 6!

Not just on Sprint or T Mobile, I have a Motorola Moto X 2014 Pure Edition on AT&T and it does it also. I really believe its not the carrier or the software I think it's something to do with Motorola's hardware, but I can't think of a hardware problem that would cause this other than the antennas. That's just my opinion, I can't think of anything else that would effect different model phones with different version software (5.0,5.1) seems to me the only thing in common is the manufacturer. That's my 2 cents anyway.

No clue what it is.. It has to be a combination Hardware/software... I only have the issue with cellular signal dropping to the ! point when I am at work which is just in a weird spot where I use to get nothing on Sprint and when I switched to T-Mobile I got a weak LTE signal at work.. Once we upgraded to 5.1 I started having the ! issue often but only at work.... Just about everywhere else I got I have no issues... My biggest issue since 5.1 was WiFi dropping back to LTE and then reconnecting to WiFi again... This happens all the time now.... Sitting just a few feet from my router it will drop go to LTE and then back to Wi-Fi.. Happens so often I actually just leave WiFi turned off now (Since I get a very strong LTE signal at home and have unlimited 4G LTE with T-Mobile) My wife has the Oneplus One and my daughter has an iPhone plus an iPad with no issues on our router... Only the Nexus 6 and only since 5.1 (I have not updated to 5.1.1 yet)

If that issue happens again, I found airplane mode kicks the radio back into connecting. Kind of annoying. Sometimes when I leave my gf's house and turn off WiFi, I'll get home, and I'll have the ! After driving for 40 mins. I side loaded 5.1.1 and it hasn't happened since.

I saw this a couple of times with the new 5.1.1 TMo build... when I was pushing a lot of mobile data either up or down, the data connection would go kaput and I would have to reboot to clear (Airplane Mode didn't kick it into gear).

I ended up doing a full-on reflash of the factory image (radios, bootloader and all) and the problem has since gone away.

Interesting..... I might need to try that

Yeah... drove me a little batty. The first time I happened, I was doing a cloud sync with Titanium Backup... it got a little ways through and my data dropped out. Next time it happened, I was trying to download the M Preview build and it would get about 500MB in and die. I have MultiROM, so I booted into a custom ROM I had and I could download without any issues, so I went back to the stock build and did some testing and found this among other errors:

05-26 11:16:54.797 E/kickstart(862): ERROR: function: rx_data:288 Read/Write File descriptor returned error: No such device, error code -1
05-26 11:16:54.804 E/kickstart(862): ERROR: function: sahara_main:1143 Sahara protocol error
05-26 11:16:54.806 E/kickstart(862): ERROR: function: main:268 Uploading Image using Sahara protocol failed

Then data puked on its shoes and went offline.

Now, I built this before TMo released EITHER the 5.1 "M" build or the new Wi-Fi calling, so it was basically built by bouncing from 22c to the LYZ28E via a couple of OTAs. So I grabbed the full LYZ28E factory image (which had finally got released) and loaded it up... no issues since.

Same problem here. Totally stock and un-rooted N6 on T-Mobile.

Seems to have gotten worse over the last couple of weeks.

I've had to turn on LTE Only, and this usually works ok. Luckily I'm in a good LTE area, but this is an unacceptable situation.

N6 was rock-solid before this issue began. Very frustrating.

I have the same Wi-Fi issue and I am on 5.1.1 so that didn't fix it for me, I on Verizon not T-Mobile and not a Verizon branded nexus 6 but still same issue.

on android 5.1.1

1 - go to "Settings"

2 - then click on "More..."

3 - then click on "Mobile Networks"

4 - Make sure the "Data Enabled" setting is on

5 - click on "Access Point Names"

6 - in the upper right click on the ellipse
