Got a Pixel 3XL and factory reset my S8 for my wife to use.

However, she has no ringtones. When I click into the ringtones it just says unknown.

I know I can use Zedge for custom tones, but she'd prefer the factory default ones.

Any clue how to get them back?

How did you do the factory reset? Did you remove your Google account first, then go to the Backup & Reset menu in the system settings?

Was the phone rooted or modified in some way?

Not rooted.

I simply did a factory reset (didn't remove my previous acct as I assumed Resetting it would do that anyhow).

Then set her phone up (she was using an S6 edge) using smartswitch.

Would they be wlsaved somewhere in the system files of say my old S6 that I can copy and move? Looks like the ringtones directory only has non default tones.

Also, I checked and her phone is selecting Media Storage as the default (I uninstalled may file manager that was in the phone just in case).

Do I really need to factory reset this phone again?

Preinstalled ringtones are in a protected system directory, which means you can't access them with a file manager unless the phone is rooted.

It's an odd issue. Try wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-34311

If you do end up doing another factory reset, make sure you remove your Google account from the Settings>Accounts menu first. With Factory Reset Protection, if you don't remove the existing primary account, the phone will default to that account when asking for a Google password after the phone restarts.
