Lost Contacts when Updating

Hello Everyone,

Today I updated my Android software to 2.3.4 and lost all of my phone contacts. My Facebook contacts are there but my normal phone contacts with phone #'s are all gone. I say all gone, but one remained which I thought was odd. When I touch my "Contacts" app it tells me that app is not installed, which is odd becuase it was before the update. I can "search Contacts" and find all my FB contacts but if it was just a normal contact it is gone.


Any ideas, or thoughts, or has this happened to anyone else?

Did you sync with your gmail account that has your contacts?
I know it is a basic question, and not trying to be a smart arse.
Also might want to consider synching with outlook on your home computer as a back-up.

Your contacts should be either on your Gmail account (if you have one) or with Motorola Services. Go to Contacts/menu/settings/Contact storage. Ether check your gmail account or Motorolla services.

What I ended up doing is taking my old phone that had about 98% of my contacts on it and had the at&t store sync it up with the Atrix. They couldn't tell me why my contact app is no longer installed,but atleast now my contacts are there and I can see them through the search function. Not ideal but not a pain in the arse.

I will sync with GMail tonight.....don't want to go through that again.

Yea I too lost all my contacts on the update on friday. I took it to the at and t store with no soultions. When they went to my Google account only a few contacts were even there. I had to get my old phone and use the contact info to restore the ones lost. Now I have 1 year of missing contacts and the old contacts that were on the old sim are gone as well. If this is how Google backs up information I need to rethink my phone situation. Furthermore if android updates these phones and we use them for business its a bad system. I want to know where almy contacts went. And yes it was backuped with google as well as stored on my phone.

If you never sinched your phone with either Moto or Gmail is at no fault to them but to the way the phone organized everything after the update. Sim card contacts are stored in a way that the phone for some reason does not see them correctly. I had my contacts sinched with Moto and had no issues. Just my 2C.
