Lost lock-screen wallpaper

I have selected a few pictures from my Gallery to be used as lock-screen wallpaper. However when I try to view the pictures again, they have disappeared from my Gallery. Does the Galaxy (or Android) put images for the lock screen somewhere else? Is it possible to retrieve these images again? Because it will make me think twice before using an image for the lock screen if that means I lose it.

Thank you, everybody. The solution was simple. Stupid me put the photos in a different folder. Simple, right?
