Lost photos when updating software

Happened with my S7 and again with Note 9
Also, when I try to access photos on my sd card, the ONLY option is "DELETE"

Did you not have them auto backup to a Google account? Really recommend reading into doing this if you're phone were to be lost, stolen, or broke you won't lose them! Take SD card out and try to access the file on a PC or Mac.

Welcome to Android Central! Were all of the photos saved to the SD card? SD cards are prone to failure or corruption, so you should always make it a habit to sync or backup your photos somewhere safe. I also strongly recommend Google Photo, as mentioned above.
