Loud static noise when recording video?

I tested this on my partner's phone (Galaxy S7 Edge) and it also has the static noise.

Might be an Android thing?

hmmm I just tested my V20 out after reading your post and it has static as well on video of a quiet room playback at full volume. It's a tad softer and more pleasing to the ear than the Pixel 2 XL's static but it's quite noticeable. Interesting

I'm guessing it's the automatic gain control being set too high in quiet environments that's causing the static.

Even talking softly or a purring cat causes static to be overlaid on the sound.
