love my BlackBerry but

Yeah i've started lurking over here too, starting to investigate. Thinking i'm going to jump into the Samsung world, S5 & Note 10.1 2014. I have so much to learn, hopefully I can find some answers.

Let us know if you choose soon... i'm still in the land of undecided :)

I'm really thinking about grabbing the S5 when it drops or I will wait for it if that is the right way of phrasing it. The phone seems to be what I'm looking for even just from the rumoured specs. I did look at the other platforms, but at this moment Android/Samsung seems to look like what will meet my needs. As an outsider looking in the Nature Skin or TouchWiz looks like it would be easy to use. I like to tinker, but i'm not a rooter by any means. I think my initial foray into Android is going to be with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (When it drops in Canada) I need to update my PlayBook as its no longer meeting all of my needs for work, the SPen looks interesting and that screen is bonkers. I feel like it will be a good place to start, learn where everything is and really get a grasp on the device/OS, I also think Android/Samsung should solve a lot of my gripes, I have with my current daily drivers Z10/PlayBook. I'm excited to get on a major platform, with a major manufacturer... no more waiting, I'm sick of waiting for everything, 5 years was enough. I want an out of box experience that works and I can get everything.

My only hesitation/negative thoughts is securing my future Android/Samsung devices, I would only buy content from Google Play only, but as an outsider, especially a BlackBerry outsider I have heard many negative stories, I would love to hear from the Android experts how to protect myself. What I can do to really make my new Samsung products safe.

Do you have any idea where you want to go for devices Angie?

What do you mean by "make my new Samsung products safe"? Are you talking about security vulnerabilities such as virus'/stolen information? If you stick to downloading apps from the Play Store and stick with "reputable" developers then you should be just fine. By reputable, I mean reading reviews, watching download count and reviewing the permissions requested from each app. Also, there are security apps, you can download to keep an eye on things for you.

Use smart judgment and everything should go well and you'll have a pleasant Android experience.

Highly inclined to agree with magnus. I have AVG on my phone but that is so it don't get something while surfing.

Yes I was talking about security vulnerabilities, malware, trojans, identity theft. I have read about several diffrent Apps that some how made there way to Google Play. Again I'm not saying this to through fuel on any fire, I just want to protect myself. I have read that Antivirus software is a must in the Android World, no different from the old PC days and Windows. Obviously I'm not the type of user to just randomly click links or download stuff from untrusted sites, I'm just wondering what heavy Android users have been using to protect themselves. I was in a presentation a couple of weeks ago that 93% of current Malware attacks the Android platform, have any of you experienced any of this?

Interesting. I think the "One" is an interesting device as well and truly hope you enjoy it. I guess something that turns me off right away is the unknown factors around HTC's future and as we have just seen with BB I'm really not sure I want to end up in another mess/situation will this manufacturer be around, will updates actually come out, etc.... Maybe not the optimistic way of looking at things, but I'm so over the drama you know. I know Samsung will be around for the next five years at least.

4 hours and I love it so far! It won't go the way of the BlackBerry in the way that matters to me most. Apps. I've had e phones in 1 1/2 years and I think this might finally be the one that sticks. It's as intuitive like my blackberry.. quick like my bb but slicker ... I'm happy!

Nope. I've been Android users since 2009 and never install antivirus. The worst thing I've experienced is adware.. Just read the reviews before you download something.

FB Page Manager and Instagram are social pages I use for my business. WWF for fun. I could side load and did but the ones I tried never worked right.

And the Facebook app works better on android

The only thing I really really miss is the bed side mode.

Have you found a work around for bedside mode? Glad that its still going well.

I have just been researching and learning a great deal about all the different software and services Google has to offer. Also learning more and more each day about Android in general.
