Love my Dinc, but having problems..if I have a chance to switch is Droid X next best?

Have you considered rooting and removing city id to see if that fixes your issue. I have been rooted for awhile and can't recall the caller id not working. I know rooting isn't for everyone but thought I would mention it. As long as you switch to a Android phone you should be happy.

Thanks, mclarryjr - I have thought about rooting, but a little nervous to do it. That's a good thought. I may read up on how difficult it is, etc. Strange thing is, I had no problems until the Froyo OTA update.

Thanks for the feedback. VZW is supposed to call me this week to see what my next steps are.

thanks again, everyone for the help.

Rooting is actually really easy. There's a program called unrevoked that will basically do it for you. All you need to do is open unrevoked, connect your phone as a hard drive with USB debugging on, and sit back while the phone is rooted in less than 5 minutes. However, for this to work you need to remove the HTC drivers and HTC sync from your computer, and install the hboot drivers onto your computer if you have a PC. There are lots of tutorials out there, and people over in the ROMS and Hacks forum are more than willing to help.

From there, download titanium backup (the free version will do) from the market, and you can disable bloatware apps like CityID.

Rooting is fairly low risk and won't delete your phone's data or anything (although do back up your contacts and other important stuff beforehand in the unlikely event something goes wrong). Do be advised, though, that it does void your warranty, so you will need to unroot in order to take the phone in to a Verizon store (make sure you have some idea of how to do that). The result, though, is much more freedom with the phone that you paid for.

Sorry for the offense taken guys. I just didn't see this as such a big issue mostly because you said it happens only 20% of the time. Doesn't seem like a good enough reason to ditch an otherwise brilliant phone.

Btw, I'm a "professional" as well, R.T.(R)(CT)....

no worries, sorry I fired back so hard :)

Agreed. The incredible is awesome. I am doing a little experiment this week, counting the # of times that caller ID fails, if it's 20% or less, I think I can live with it....especially because I have no other current problems with the phone.

Today out of 14 incoming calls, caller ID failed only twice...something like 14% failure rate, I believe. That I can live with.. we'll see how it does the rest of the week. Most of the time it works, then for some reason it won't work...and I'll just get the # and not the name of the person ( even though they are calling from the same exact #).
