LOVE the phone... can't take the battery.

I'm going through my first day with the Seidio 1750 extended battery and so far, wow. I have been able to get decent battery life out of the stock battery, but by this time of day, I'd normally be around 50% - 60% with "moderate" usage. So far, I've been up for 5 hours 23 minutes and am at about 80% - 90% still. (Two boxes are gone in the Battery Level in the Settings/About area).

I've been using 4G, streaming the world cup for about 20 minutes, had a Wifi hotspot active on 4G two separate times for about 10 - 15 minutes each time.

It's far too early to say that this is the answer to everyone's problems.. but it's without a doubt better than the stock battery. (Which is to be expected)

Just activated my EVO yesterday afternoon. Had 5 1/5 hours total time, 3 1/5 awake, with about 40% of battery left.

Charged it over night, and took it off the charger at 6:30 this morning. Used it pretty heavily today: Lots of just playing around learning it, a fair bit of web browsing, at least a hundred emails on Exchange Active Sync, and a couple of dozen on Gmail, a couple of (short) video playbacks. Other than turning off google voice, I haven't really done anything to optimize battery life.

Went 7 hours before the battery indicator turned yellow, and almost 10 hours before the charge battery warning came up. I'm pretty satisfied with that, given how heavily I used it, and everything the phone does. Hopefully it'll get a little bit better after a couple of charge cycles.

As some of u may know, I've been getting crappy battery life n was tweaking a lot of settings to get the battery to last.

I also had a theory on battery usage n the percentage the "display" was at.

I think I finally solved it and battery is doing really good today. I've been using it normally
(Usage similar from day 1) & my battery is at 70% after 5.5hrs.

I'm at work now & can't write in detail, but will start a new thread with admin blessings.

I don't know how you do that...I have 4g, wifi, gps, and bluetooth off...I had my phone off the charger for a little over 6 hours and I am at 50%...I used AIM for about 45 mins...took two scans using google goggles...no web/video/camera/calls/texts at all...this can't be normal, is it?

I was almost ready to return my phone because of the battery, tried to reset to factory settings and have been amazed at the difference. Can't wait to read more reviews about the 1750 seido to buy it.

I haven't seen anyone mention this - (unless I missed it), but I'm visiting from the Incredible forums - just peeking in.

Of course, Incredible users also were complaining about battery life on ours when we first got them.

I do NOT use ATK on my Incredible, and I don't do the boost charges either (I really don't want to have to do that on a daily basis).

I use my phone like a phone, with some moderate web surfing, and a lot of texting and some gaming.

What I found that really improved MY battery life on the Incredible (and I would imagine would be the same with the EVO) is after I booted up - the Calendar would not allow my phone to truly "sleep".

If your settings menu is the same, you can check by going to Settings - About Phone - Battery. If your Up Time and your Awake Time are the same - you have an application or widget that is not allowing your phone to truly "sleep" when the screen goes black.

In many user's cases - it was the Calendar. Every time I boot up (when I've actually turned the phone off and then back on), I immediately go into Settings - Applications - Manage Applications and then go into the Calendar and Force Close it.

You can THEN re-start the Calendar and use it as much as you like, but your phone will now properly sleep. I'd hazard a guess that the ATK is doing the first KILL of an app that doesn't allow your phone to sleep and then it's able to sleep properly. Thus people attributing the ATK for saving the battery, when in fact, it's the force close of an app that doesn't allow your phone to sleep upon re-starting your phone.

I take my phone off the charger around 10 pm, use it as an alarm clock, and put it back on the charger with about 30% battery life at 9 pm the next day.

Much of the battery life is caused by your phone not truly ever sleeping. See if that works for you EVO users. Good luck!

wow this is just ridiculous...so I was running just under 9 hours but with hardly any useage at all...4G/GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth all turned off and I was sitting at around 11 %...i go to follow the above poster and go see if my calendar is still running and the phone just shuts off on me!!! I swear I have a bad battery how could it possbily just dump it all that fast???!!!

I pulled my EVO off the charger at 8am this morning and it's now 10:24pm and I just now got the connect your charger message. My battery reads 14% and I have used it pretty good today, lots of email, text and phone calls with some web surfing as well.

this may be a dumb question, but has anyone taken their phone in to a sprint service center and had them check the battery and the phone?

i know, i know. stop laughing, wipe up the soda you just shot out of your nose, give yourself a couple minutes... stop laughing again...

haha

just a thought, don't know if they can be of any help.

i am having major battery issues too, and my phone resets itself 5-6 times a day... everyday.

I have the Seidio 1750 battery in my EVO now.. Installed it on Tuesday night and let it charge all night before turning the device on.... It's been pretty solid.. not a MAJOR upgrade from the stock battery but after 4 days on the stock battery and now 3+ days on the 1750 I appear to be getting slightly better usage.. hard to really gauge since I don't use the phone the same every day.... I was traveling all day Thursday so I actually got 30 hours from taking it off the charger Wednesday night around 5:30 and it didn't go red and 15% until Thursday night around 10:45.... But I didn't use it much as I spent 9 of those hours sleeping and 8 hours driving.. Only used it while eating breakfast, stopping to get gas and at lunch then when I got home Thursday night until she went dead.... I took it off the charger Friday morning at 7:00 and it's 10:40 now and I am at 30% battery left.... but being home all day today and spending 2 hours at the park with my kids I have been on it pretty good today surfing the web, texting, and taking pictures of the kids and uploading them to Facebook and E-Mailing a few to the grandparents, I also downloaded and set up Fring today and did a quick 10 minute video call with my parents..... but still 17 hours isn't too bad on a single charge (with room to spare) I will get a good car charging dock and desk top dock when they hit the market....

I would love to know what you guys do to kill your batteries so fast. I took mine off the charge at noon today and right now 13 hours later just hit yellow. Granted I am not in a 4G area but I had a day off so I was doing data intensive stuff on it all day. About 2 hours HQ Youtube, 1 hour calls, 50ish texts, about 2 hours browsing and reading tech news, constantly updating Facebook and Twitter, 5 RSS feeds updating, Slacker or Pandora playing while I was browsing, GPS and Bluetooth on, and some Wifi. Also screen is on auto brightness. I would consider that fairly heavy use and my battery is still great.

16h 55m with the new 1750 extended battery. Still showing 4 green bars in the About Phone > Battery app. I've listened to Pandora, used wifi, shown off google navigation for about 20 minutes, surfed the internet, probably about an hour on phone calls, used 4G+Wifi hotspot twice for about 10 - 20 minutes each, watched a little Sprint TV for the World Cup, etc, etc. All in all, probably an average to slightly above average day for me and the battery is still going strong.

I think one thing has become very obvious in this forum though and that is everyone's experience seems different so a very big "Your mileage may vary". I will say though, if you're having battery life issues, this is def going to put you in the right direction and very well may solve your issues. If not, maybe it and Froyo will be enough to meet your needs.

MP3 Store keeps waking up and checking for downloads

Check out that MP3 Store app. I noticed it kept launching, then I checked its settings and saw it was set to "monitor connection" and automatically resume downloads when connectivity is restored.

That obviously sounds bad, especially since I don't use it.

I unchecked it, saved changed, killed it, but then it kept starting anyway.

I'm about to uninstall it.

Oh wait, it does't seem to be uninstall-able. (at least form manage applications)

HELP!

Mike

Yeah on mine the Apps that seem to reopen even after you kill them are Qik, Voice Dialer, Amazon MP3 store and Sprint Navigation. I will click on ATK 3 - 4 times per day and those Apps seem to pop up at different points and times through out the day and start running in the back ground. Overall I am getting at least 14 - 16 hours on a single charge with the stock battery and since I installed the Seidio 1750 mAh battery I get 15 - 18 with moderate use....

Possible Cause for battery problems, 3G

So since I got my EVO I've noticed a few issues. Though overall it is MUCH better than my hero was. We all now the battery is pretty bad, so I've resorted to just always carrying two with me (FYI the battery in the hero is exactly the same). But what I've noticed is that at random times during the day, my 3g connection will be transferring data and will NOT stop. This is when I don't even have any apps running but something is useing the data connection. I installed a data counter widget, and found that when this happened, the phone transferred almost 100mB of data, but for what? I can't figure it out (not only is nothing running but wtf would need to transfer that much data?!). Also it wont stop doing whatever its doing until i reboot it and while it is doing this if I attempt to use data for anything else it is horrible slow (speed test of like 100kbps/100kbps, if that). This constant transferring KILLS the battery, and I don't understand what the phone is possibly doing. I don't use friendstream, I don't use twitter, gmail and facebook are set to update every 4hours, the weather widget is set to update like once a day, so it is beyond me what is using data during these random periods. Has anyone else had this issue?

The facebook quad-hourly update could be pretty massive if you're syncing contacts (it syncs recent status and contact pictures). I've heard anecdotal stories of battery life taking a dump after setting up facebook sync- perhaps some sort of bug in sense.

Try disabling facebook sync and see if it still does it. Or, next time it happens, look in Running Services (Settings> Applications> Running Services) and see what is going on.

Another battery life trick!! - PPCGeeks, check this out it has drastically improved my battery life. Some folks had it checked and some didn't, I think it is one of the main reason with similar usage there are so many battery discrepancies. along with a few other mods I am getting pretty decent battery life and I leave the mobile network on at all times.

Damn MP3 store runs all the time on its own. I am not even opening anything that would use it, Hell I never even ran it. I may just un-install that myself. ops forgot you can't i:Di. Thing is I never buy music from there anyway since I always just rip my own CD's... better quality than what they offer, so why does it have to run?

My battery life is bad today. I seem to have good and bad days. Only streamed some video for about 30-40 min and downloaded a bunch of games etc... took it off at 8:30am and is now almost 1:30 and it is down to 22%. 5 hours sounds good but as I said I did not do 72% worth!!

I have all the radios off except the 3G and I am signed out of talk and am using ATK on aggressive mode. I am going to go back to turning ATK off, I just set it to that so that may actually be harming battery usage for me. I am going to let this battery drain until the Evo says to plug it in then swap with the 1750 again.

I am sure we will figure a pattern. All in all though it is not that bad. As I said good and bad days so far... i:)i

Other days it seemed better. I am still experimenting.
