Same for me with the S22 Ultra. My face unlock works in a dark room with the only light from the RGB on the fans of my PC and keyboard.

I forget its on until it works. It's more of a convenience on the Pixel IMO. I generally don't like a lot of lights on so I noticed right away it doesn't work in low light. Seeing as how it's just a camera sensor that uses ai to recognize your face. It makes perfect sense that it wouldn't work in low light, I highly doubt software would fix that hardware limitation.

The 4XL Face unlock worked great.

I don't understand what it is that folks don't get why the face unlock feature doesn't match the iPhone or the pixel 4. Why is this an issue at all? The face unlock feature does not have infrared and it really is that simple. I loved face unlock on the pixel 4xl, but I'm not ready for a notch! It's high time Google treads its own water. I'm willing to bet that if there comes a day when a phone can securely read your face without a notch, that works flawlessly, then Google will figure it out first! But, right now you just get a well lit face unlock feature! Otherwise, use your fingerprint. It kills me how Android fans want EVERYTHING on a phone, including bragging rights over iPhone and Sammy fans, but they're not willing to pay for it! The GP7P, is nearly a flawless design at its price point. Just ENJOY IT!
