"Low on space. Application data space is low." notification.

How many SMS messages are you holding? How many e-mail? You can change the e-mail to only download and hold x number of days of e-mail. SMS does need to be cleared out every once in a while.

Been having the message on and off for a while. Went through and dropped a few apps. But no results. Began inspecting size of apps. Found the for some reason K-9 mail had grown to abnormal size. Deleted and re-installed. Back to normal size and DINC is healthy again.

I think it's ridiculous that we keep having to delete information that could be important (emails, texts, etc.) just so the phone will work properly... And I don't mean having to re-sign into Facebook, Twitter, etc, I mean things like pushing of GMail and VZ Backup Assistant automatically running...

Sorry... My "passionate venting" is directly related to me having this warning again... :P

Is the forthcoming Gingerbread update for our DINC going to address this "low on space' bug?

This is f***in driving me nuts. It has come up here and there the last few months, but now I can't get rid of it - I cleared Facebook data, cleared all SMS messages, etc and it went away for like 10 minutes, and now back. I have TONS of room in my app memory and I don't want to delete any more apps (this is starting to feel like my old BlackBerry Storm all over again ;( It affects my keyboard (makes it lag) and screws up my Friend Stream updates, and has affected my Touchdown email from even opening when I have this error...

Does anyone know if this issue is cropping up on other HTC Verizon phones - DINC2 or Thunderbolt?

I may try to do an early upgrade or something if this won't get fixed...

I've been running CM7 for quite a while now and have not had the problem so GB may address the issue.

With that said my wife is stock and has more crap apps then Carter has Liver Pills and more junk SMS then she could ever read and has never had the problem either. So I don't know - it appears to be a cache issue, but some people get it like clockwork and others never get it at all.

I do know that a full reset will make it go away for a long time. It's a PITA, but worth thinking about.

If the Froyo update is any indication, you'll likely have to do a factory reset after GB drops. Many people had app and FC issues after Froyo. Might as well get the practice in. ;)

Guess I can try to wait and see what Gingerbread brings (and fixes), but it better come soon!

Otherwise, I guess I may try to root...

Previously all I've had to do was clean out the mail trash. That didn't work this time, but the phone seems to operate fine. Is there a downside to just ignoring the low space message?

I've been getting the warning for the last few weeks but have been able to make it go away by clearing the cache for all of my apps. That's no longer working; the warning is present all the time, even after rebooting. This, despite my phone still having 549MB (73%) free and my SD card still having 6.62GB (44%) free.

In my case, Gmail is no longer syncing -- so I *can't* ignore the warning any longer.

I guess I'm to the point again where I'll have to wipe the phone. This will be the third time I've had to do it within 11 months. Quite a pain, but it's been an awesome phone for me, otherwise. Wish we could get some official explanation from HTC and/or Google as to why this occurs, what they are doing to fix it, and what we can do to prevent it in the meantime.

I got it to go away by deleting the data for Facebook. You'll have to re-log, but that did the trick for me.

Deleting Facebook data from the device has worked for me in the past but is not helping this time.

Try sorting the apps by file size and deleting that data (not cache) for the biggest app.

I have been frustrated to the low on space issue and here is what I have learned. Many android apps store their database in data/data folder. With the incredible and many other phones this space is 150 megs max. This is a limitation on android not the incredible. I am puzzled by this limitation as it is not with the iphone. But oh well. Hope Google will solve this limitation. As time goes on as you install apps and use your current apps this space becomes full. If you move your apps to SD card they still take up same space in the data/data folder. If you are rooted there is an app called notenoughspace that works around this by creating a virtual partition on either sd card or emmc and you can give this space a much larger then 150meg size. It works fine in theory but as you reboot your phone some of the apps you moved may not work or become missing. I don't use this app because of that.
The way I fix this issue is to clear data from apps that have a lot of data stored. I only do this for apps that this is not an issue to do. I have all the apps I want installed and I have 107megs free in my data/data folder. The apps that are main users of data/data is Audubon apps. I am a big nature freak and have them all but they take up 10 plus megs in data/data. I clear the data and my data/data has tons more room. When I need to ID a bird I load up the app. It loads fine and reloads its data in the data/data folder and I am able to ID the bird. When I am done I can clear the data no harm, giving me plenty of room to work with.
The 150meg limit in data/data is just a limitation with android that we have to manage. Just sort your apps by data size and clear the data from apps that this will not cause issues with and you will be fine. Also a good cache cleaner if you are rooted will clean some megs from data/data

I read this whole thread. Is anyone getting this notification to go away from factory resetting their phone. I too, have the constant low app data notification and my gmail account is not syncing. I have cleared the data on every app and the notification will not go away.

Previously, clearing FB or Handcent would do the trick. Now nothing is working to get rid of that notification. I store all my pics and movies on my SD card. I have plenty of phone memory.

I would like to know if the factory reset worked before I go through the trouble of doing it and setting my phone up all over again. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I didn't see this reply until now. Thanks for the insightful comments. I wasn't aware of the 150 MB data limitation. Where did you learn about this?

Where is the "data/data" folder that you describe, how can I determine its size, and can the folder's contents be viewed without rooting? Astro says that my /data folder is empty. It shows /sdcard/data as having some data in it, including its own data folder--but that's the SD card, not internal storage.

How do you sort apps by data size? When I go to Settings > Manage Applications, I can view apps alphabetically or by total (not just data) size. Many of the apps at the top of the list have little or no data usage.

I have a general idea about this one, but for everyone else, how can I determine the apps for which data can be safely cleared?

This error message is driving me insane as well. No matter what I do, I can't get it to go away. This really needs to be addressed ASAP.

Have you cleaned up your Email and SMS storage?

Have you moved a few apps to the SD?

Just a thought.

I've had this message on and off and on...for a long time now. It won't go away at this point, no matter what I do (move apps, clear cache/data/emails/texts). Since Gmail no longer works I can't ignore it much longer. What a joke.

Other than having too many apps, stored SMS's and e-mails I'm not sure what causes this. I have never seen this either Stock or running CM7. My wife's DInc, which is stock and loaded with "crap apps" (really, how many horoscope and tarot card apps does one need?) and what I consider ton's of SMS messages has also never had this problem.

Loading a new ROM may fix the problem.

Have you removed apps that you never use? I know every time I do a fresh load I cull at least 4 or 5 apps that I downloaded and never used.

Before rooting and running a new ROM. I would back up your data and do a factory reset. Then download the apps from the market you really use.

Just my $0.02

I got the low app data notification to go away and my gmail notifications are working again. I had to clear my contacts. The contacts app data had ballooned to 25 MB. I used the VZW Backup Asst to backup my contacts. I cleared the contacts data and logged into my acct on VZW.com and pushed the contacts back to my phone. I haven't seen the low app data notification again. I'm glad I did this instead of wiping my phone. One of the previous posts suggested this. I hope this helps.
