Lowering resolution - how much does it boost graphics performance?

Hi, has anyone experienced faster performance from graphics intensive apps by lowering the screen resolution in the settings menu? Just wondering how much of a difference this will make to graphics performance.

I reduce the resolution on games to 1080p, and it seems to help. I leave it on max for the interface, it didn't seem to really effect battery life just browsing on the phone.
