Hey AC Raleigh members,

I noticed LTE symbol on my phone around 16:30 est around the RDU area but then it went away after about 20 mins. I think VZW was testing the tower. We might be getting it soon. I did couple of speed tests and it was averaging around 5-6 mbps dn, upload about the same.

It was on all day that day because I was in brier creek and was getting speeds up 21 down and 5 up

We have had it here in sleepy Lincolnton. Looks like they are moving north pretty fast.

Its in most major airports. You sure it was in Raleigh and not just RDU?

Lincolnton? Lincolnton is nowhere near Raleigh!!

at around 12:30 on wednesday, the 11th... I was getting 4GLTE on capital blvd, and 540 in north raleigh, did a speed test... 22mb down, 4mb up. almost as good as my TWC wideband. Can't wait til they flip the switch on 4G, i think it will be soon, i read on twitter that they have an announcement this week, dont know if its for raleigh, but it is an LTE announcment regarding new markets.

I live in N.Raleigh and haven't seen 4G. I also tried today and no luck. I heard June or July. Maybe it's just around the corner!!

grrr...can we get a little LTE love in Raleigh.

Looks like Verizon is turning on a bunch this Thursday. I saw the tweet that Fayetteville-Lumberton goes live Thursday. We had better be turned on as well. I am still trying to figure out why Wilmington is on first and not us. We are only the capitol city.

Pulling for you guys in Raleigh! I'm hoping that Greensboro is updated before Memorial Day. Traveling up there to see my folks for the week. I'm already in a LTE market, so I've been watching to see when G'boro would get it.

doesn't look like we're getting it, this go round.

it looks like verizons LTE announcement schedule is around the 15-18th of every month... i have been hearing for a long while now that june will be the month of LTE for raleigh... sounds like we'll find out around mid june, IMO i give it a 100% chance, since theres been multiple reports all around raleigh now of the 4GLTE icon coming off and on. thats my prediction, take it to the bank.

btw we had lte on in wake forest from 5/17 - 5/18.... i got 22mb down and 10mb up on average... it only lasted about 24 hours but its good to know its finally on the way

I just picked up my new TB (for free actually due having problems with 3 seperate D2G's in 3 days) and the tech that helped me said they were doing major maintenance on towers in the Raleigh area and said "don't quote me, but the tower technician came in and said it would be up and live in the next couple of days."

So, not sure how reliable this is but definitely something to make me start getting excited.

This was a tech in the Brier Creek store BTW.

its actually not as simple as just doing "maintenance", in order to launch LTE on a single tower, they have to bring in a whole new LTE cabinent seperate from the 3G equipment, configure it, test it... like they've been doing on and off at certain sites. In order to launch LTE in a new market, at least 65% of the towers have to have this new equipment setup, now that wilmington and fayetteville are launched, that team is now focusing on raleigh, yes... but this is a very very large market, and will take time. It will not be in a few days, but will be soon. My guess will be the middle of June.... and July at the latest

Based on some changes I have seen, I'm about 99.999% certain that Verizon is currently integrating their network with Alltel's network in the Raleigh area. This is very complex by itself, and I would not expect to see 4G LTE launch until the two networks are fully integrated.

I believe it is literally happening while I type this.

Update - VZW Alltel Integration

Woke up this morning to a new System ID in the Debug screen. Raleigh used to be system ID 69, now it is 578, which, according to various sites found by the all-knowing Google, used to be Alltel in Wilmington, NC.

In other words, the techs have their hands full. Once everything is integrated, I would expect to see LTE come online very quickly.

Offtopic rant:

This also explains why apps that use Google's location service which uses the characteristics of visible cell sites (such as the HTC Weather widget) sometimes show that I am in Wilmington, NC. Even Google Maps shows Wilmington until I get a GPS fix, then switches back to the real location.

This is also why services that enhance or compliment GPS functionality like Google's location service need to send results back (despite whining from certain groups), so this kind of issue can be corrected. As new cell sites are added, and as technology changes, this information must be kept up to date if these services are intended to work.
