Made a really dumb mistake backing up phone

I know this was incredibly stupid of me, and I don't have an excuse. I wasn't really thinking.

Long story short, I did a factory reset of my phone and decided to back it up first. I thought that plugging the phone into my computer and copying all of the phone's contents, then pasting them back in would work. It didn't. I've lost everything except for pictures and app purchases connected to my Google account.

Would things like app data and text messages have been saved anywhere in the files I was able to copy? Or is that stuff in an inaccessible part of the system memory?

A factory reset is designed to make your data unrecoverable, no app will get it back.

I guess no way. I usually use google account and such apps as sms backup & store and now samsung account to keep contacts, sms, call history.

What if a software update did essentially the same thing...can you get files back that were wiped off the phone? I did a search and it mentioned a couple third party software programs, but they were not useful.

Did you set-up the Samsung account on your phone? Some items like contacts are backed-up automatically.
