Magnetic holder

I have a car mount that is magnetic and attaches to my phone via a thin metal disk I inserted between the 6P and my case.

If I have the display on and place it on the mount, it turns the display off. Even if I press one of the side buttons, it still does not come on. This is very annoying when I'm trying to navigate with Maps. The only solution I found was to remove the phone quickly and place it back on before it "detects" again that there's a magnet and turns off. It's hit or miss and doesn't solve the problem every time. Is there anyway to disable this "feature"?

The phone has a strategically placed magnetic field sensor which works with flip (folio) cases (which have an embedded magnet) to automatically turn off the screen when you flip the cover shut. Obviously, your magnetic mount is powerful enough that it is triggering the sensor.

As it says here https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tion/accessories_wall?hl=en-US&token=xOB4teX6 ,

"Simply open your Folio to wake your screen, or close it to put your phone to sleep, saving battery life."

To the best of my knowledge, you can't disable the sensor (except maybe with root and a custom rom).

I use a magnetic mount also, and my metal plate is right below the fingerprint sensor. I haven't had any problems with the screen turning off, but I suspect my compass may not be working correctly, but I never use the compass. It doesn't effect gps or gps maps usage however.

Yeah, I also have my ferrous plate below the fingerprint sensor and haven't ever seen that behavior.

If you have a small magnet, it's a simple task to run the magnet around the surface of the screen (holding it a few millimeters away, of course) while the screen is on to find the exact location of the magnetic sensor - when you cross over it with your handheld magnet the screen will turn off and then back on when you move away from it.

I've stopped using my mpow grip magic(can't post an amazon link, due to my rating) because one night my phone became unresponsive while on the mount. Once I took the metal plate out from between the phone/case, the issue stopped immediately.

I've been afraid to use it ever since. Anyone else have this issue?

I have a Valkyrie magnetic phone case and it does not auto shut off, nor turn on.
I love this case

Nope!

I have mine stuck to the back of my case because when it was placed between my phone and the case on my old phone it made scratches on the phone so I put it on the case now and don't have problems. Before when I had an htc phone the magnet would trigger the dot view... It was annoying.

Thanks, this helped! I noticed the 6P has a folio case that automatically turns the screen on/off, and that it's controlled by a magnet at the bottom of the phone. Sooooo, I think that was the issue. I moved the metal piece higher and haven't had any issues since!

I want to continue using my Nexus 5 magnetic charger as just a 6P car mount, by adding a ferrous plate inside my Speck case.

What are your recommendations of shape, dimensions, etc. for the disc to assure a strong hold without NFC interference? I will be sure to leave it directly below the fingerprint reader.

I think I can purchase a custom plate according to my specs at a local wholesale hardware supplier, complete with 3M adhesive.

Or, should I pay the Amazon shipping fee and hope the "replacement plates" pack will be a strong enough hold for the Speck case?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Update::
The Nexus magnetic wireless charger just isn't powerful enough to hold the 6P with a metal plate inside the Speck CandyShell Grip Case. Someone had good luck with the Koomus mount for their's, so I'll probably give that one a try.

Very happy with the low profile of the new Koomus magnetic holder. Very strong hold for Nexus 6P in the CandyShell Speck case.

I just use the Mountek Snap n Go, strong enough to hold my Nexus 6P or Galaxy Note 4 with cases on, no magnetic interference turning the screen off

I use the Mpow Grip. It works great and doesn't seem to interfere with the Nexus 6P functionality.
