Please Help!!! My mail app which is the one that came with the phone is all of a sudden using 1.03GB.
I've emptied the mail from all accounts, lowered the amount of mail that can come in, set it to only get mail manually, I've even deleted accounts. Nothing is changing the 1.03GB.
The cache is empty. I've force stopped it. I don't know what else to do.

I would do a factory reset myself. I don't keep a whole lot of stuff on my phone though so recovery is pretty easy after doing for me. Makes the phone run like new though.

OK, just brainstorming here, as I definitely do not have personal experience in this specific realm...

First, it may help to know what kind of email account this is (Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, corporate, etc), and how it's setup to receive mail (POP3, IMAP, Exchange Active Sync, etc).

I know that POP, for example, simply downloads messages from the server to the client, so if you've been using it for quite some time, those message could build up quite a bit.

One thing you could try, if you haven't already, would be to REMOVE your email account from the mail app, and then reboot your phone. See if the data usage has gone down. If it has, you can then re-add your email account and start over again. (you may also want to check the POP settings on the account itself if applicable, to make sure it's not downloading EVERY message to your phone when you set it up).

It's an exchange active sync account. I tried removing the account. Matter of fact, I removed my verizon email account, the facebook sync, and the dropbox sync account and for some reason it didn't do anything. I finally resorted to the dreaded factor reset. It obviously worked, but what a pia!
