Mail app using tons of data

I just got a data usage alert and went to check my data usage. The biggest user of data was the HTC mail app, with 890mb.

I have one exchange account set up - my work account, with minimal settings... Only sync inbox, 3 days back, don't include attachments, etc.

Sync schedule was set to Smart Sync.

When I went to the account sync settings I saw that there was a sync error.

I had noticed that my phone was running hot a lot lately, and my battery draining quickly.

So I'm guessing that the error made it just keep trying to sync endlessly. I set the sync schedule to Manual.

Has this happened to anyone else?

ya check on how often your mailbox refreshes....I hate the sense email app and use aquamail, which is free, highly recommend! But in the past that happened to me cause my mailbox was syncing every 15 min or less.....as for the error, try rebooting, or deleting the account and re installing it.

I have exactly the same issue with my business exchange account - have you managed to sort it as I am getting nowhere.

Have adjusted all the mail settings manual sync ect so its not pushing data through - but as soon as I do a manual sync it carries on
and eats my data I have to manually cancel the sync which is an absolute pain.

Have contacted HTC and O2 but just keep getting the same response - check settings blah blah!!

no fix yet for me. However my office is running an old version of MS Server (2003), and plans to upgrade soon. I'm hoping that might have something to do with it.

The only option is to manually sync, like you are doing, and sync when connected to WiFi. It's very counter-intuitive to having a smart phone and needing information on the go. But it will work until there is a solution on the server side.
