Symptoms
I have 2 accounts an exchange and pop
Last week the exchange crashed i deleted and recreated that account. Everything repopulated.
This morning my pop account generated a security certificate error dialog box. I could not get past that box till I tried to re set up the account. At that point I got a force close and sent a report to Htc. When I went back over into accounts and sync I noticed the pop account address was associated or lable as htc sense not mail. I did sign up for htc sense a couple weeks ago to pull down a wallpaper.
So I need to have my pop account setup as a mail account and htc sense.

Go into your Mail App, hit menu>more>settings>account settings>next> and change your security type from SSL to None. This fixed my POP account.

thanks that's exactly what I had to to get it going also.
IA there a down side to removing the ssl

Secure Socket Layer protocol.

So you lose some security. Some sites just don't need it.
