My DInc has is VERY messed up! Can someone help?

I'm using Froyo.

1. After powering up, phone reverted from Launcher Pro to Sense (losing all settings on all screens, widgets, etc), which would be fine, except that,

2. Right after my home page shows up after power up, I get a cycle of "force close" pop - ups for a majority of my installed apps, with messages that those apps can't open. FWIW, that also includes HomeSwitcher, which is how I would normally get back into Launcher Pro.

3. When the cycle of force-closes notices finally stops, I'm left with a very old Sense screen with very old settings. There are no apps on any other of my home screens.

4. I see most, but not all, apps in the app drawer. Some work, some don't. LauncherPro and some other "missing" apps show up in my App Manager as being installed, but that is the only sign of them on my phone.

I was hoping someone here might have something helpful to offer before I call for help. Not even sure if i'd be calling HTC or Verizon??

Thanks so much!

Factory reset the phone. Your going to lose all your apps, but that's exactly what vzw is going to tell you to do anyway

Ok. Thanks. I'm assuming that I'll basically be setting my phone from scratch again, correct? I had recently backed up my LauncherPro settings. Will that backup be gone as well?

Actually, I'm having a tough time getting the the factory reset option in the settings because there is a constant loop of force close messages popping up and I can't get around them. Is there a button somewhere inside the case that I can access that will do a hard reset?

You should be able to do it by booting into Recovery. Shut down. Hold the "volume down" rocker, and hit the power button while holding volume down. It should boot into recovery and one of the options is factory reset.

I found this on another site. I would link to it, but it's verboten :(

  1. Turn the power off. If your HTC DROID Incredible is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Press and release the Power button
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

another way to reset the phone is go into settings and click on SD & phone storage
then click on factory reset data

I'm not sure if it is available under the stock recovery, but look for "fix permissions" under "advanced" in the recovery menu (after booting while holding volume down). Running that usually fixes force close issues for me, but I am using a custom recovery.

Me too!!

I had this exact issue on Saturday. Switched out to a fresh battery (like I have done dozens of times) and when I turned it on everything was messed up. Apps didn't work (FC), LauncherPro was gone. But phone, gmail, basics worked OK. Anyway, did a factory reset this morning and getting things back to normal now.
BTW the only apps that auto reloaded were paid apps. Free apps need to be reloaded manually. Cool thing was the desktop version of the market still showed all my old apps - for a few hours until I guess it finally reset - but I could just click on the app and the re-install it.
Thanks for this post guys!
