Well, probably not really faster, but it feels faster.

One of the first programs I installed on my Evo was Spare Parts. A couple of the options have to do with Window Animations and Transition Animations. Options range from Off-->Fast-->Normal-->Slow-->Very Slow.

I initially set it to "Fast" figuring that would be, well, fastest. Today I experimented and set it to "off." Not a huge difference, but the UI does feel snappier. Compared to the "normal" setting, it's noticeably quicker feeling.

If you don't have Spare Parts, give it a try. I wonder if part of the reason the update makes the Evo seem faster is because they changed the animation settings.

Yep, I change both to off.

You can see what they do by setting them, one at a time, to Very Slow. That makes the animations pretty obvious.

What exactly do "animations" do when on or off? What effect does this have on the phone and performance. I can assume pretty much what it is, but with so much stuff out nowadays, anything can mean anything and do many things.

i tried going through the sound & display area to turn off the animation, but i don't see a difference..... what exactly is turned off?

If you use Spare Parts and set them to extra slow, you'll see what the effects are. One example: opening up Mail, with the animation turned on the screen populates gradually. Setting animations off the screen just pops up with no delay. This doesn't make a huge difference, but mine feels snappier with them turned off.

I cant tell the diff if they are on or off. What is it anyway?
