Should I be manually killing apps to save battery life and stop the phone from feeling slow by using a task manager app? I am new to Android so I don't know if this is necessary or not. Everyone on iOS says you don't have to kill apps on iOS devices because the system manages by itself. Is this the case with Android? I'm running 4.0.2.

No. Never touch a task manager. Especially an auto-killing one.

If you ever need to FC an app that is misbehaving, then you can use the Settings menu. Otherwise, just let it be. You're wasting more battery and giving yourself a worse experience trying to manage the processes than if you just let them be.

I have noticed that when I restart/reboot my phone with apps open, the same apps are still open when the phone powers back up. I always thought it took less ram if I manually close the apps (not force close) by swyping shut the ones I am done using.
