Manually Update from LG8 to LI3 (UNROOTED STOCK PHONES) Sprint Only

It worked fine. I am using Swype, and it seems like it is much better then before.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not after you.

Skunk, if you format your SD card with the formatting option in Settings/Storage, will it format in fat32?

No. If you do it with your phone it formats to exfat. You must format it from your computer. I use easeus partition master.

So I must be doing something wrong. I downloaded the zip but when I put my phone into recovery the zip isn't there at all. Am I looking in the wrong place? I go to external storage when I get there but it's not there.

You downloaded it but did you move it to your sd card before trying? Using the internal memory won't work.

Got it figured out. I thought I had it on my external but was on the internal. Now my next question is how has it improved? I haven't really noticed much.

i did all this and wen i rebooted i lost my beatsaudio installer how do i get it bacc i was on odenblu

How do you get easus to see the card? Only partitions it can see are the ones on the pc's hard drives.

I just did the manual update, with the helpful use of OTA RootKeeper. After all said and done, It says I have root back, but I lost my tethering capabilites. So Im a bit confused as to why?

The failed to mount is because your sdcard is using exfat file system. It needs to be fat32 to mount in recovery.
I understand that.

What I don't understand is why I applied all previous updates without issue.

Ok I'm having the same issue. I even tried unrooting and going to stock recovery. Did some searching and (freeza) the same guy that provided the flashable stock LG8 zip has now updated his thread with the stock LI3 zip. This is the Stock rooted LI3 update but without the radio. So you will have to also down load and flash the LI3 modem separately. Both links provided below for your flashing pleasure. You should be able to flash both of these by just wiping cache and dalvik.

[ROM]9/20/12 LI3 Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 3

LI3 Modem / Radio

How can I verify if I have the latest modem installed?

I have never rooted my phone and don't want to right now. Does this up root my phone or what? I'm confused.

No. It's just the update that normally goes OTA(over the air). It simply does the same thing without having to wait for the OTA update to come to you.

Ok lets try it this way... Put you sdcard in a card reader. open "my computer " right click on the sdcard drive and choose format from the drop down menu. in the format window you will see a file system drop down. choose fat32. if your memory card is too small for fat32 it may only give you the option of fat16. If widows doesn't see your memory card it is probably bad.

I don't really know if anyone is doing this but just want to throw it out there in case.... You can't format your sdcard through your usb cable connected to your phone.

Manually installing the update has nothing to do with rooting your phone.

This thread has been updated with a new improved method of returning to stock. No Odin or computer required. See Op...

Thanks Skunk. My card wasn't being read through the card reader adapter I was using. Switched to a USB adapter and worked like a charm.

In the meantime, I used GK3K's suggestion, which also worked. And for whatever reason, I didn't even lose root.

I don't have a card reader but I know they are not expensive. CWM and my PC seem to be reading my SD card fine. Can I tell what disk format my SD card in in without owning a card reader? It's a 32Gb Sandisk but I did reformat it with the formatting utility from the GS3. Could not reformatting the SD card again present problems for me down the road? Is it possible that I am already in fat32? I hate to fix it if it is not broken. :)

If CWM is reading it you are already either fat32 or fat16 and fine.
