I really want to use this widget but every time I place the widget on my screen the gps stays on, am I missing a setting someplace? For instance, I placed the widget on my home screen about 30 minutes ago and the gps is still on and my phone is getting warm. Any ideas?

The maps wallpaper is just as bad. it makes sense in that it had to be on to get satellite signal, but it seems like it needs to be plug in car use only from a power standpoint

What's the issue? I've been an Android user since 2009 and haven't turned off GPS since day 1.

By the way, for a map to work it needs to know where you are. If you move from location A to location B it would make no sense to keep showing you traffic for location A.

When a map is being shown and GPS is on it starts tracking you on the map. That will not only make your phone warm but often HOT. Do this at your own peril.

Im talking about the maps traffic widget, not maps. I dont think many people use it let alone know about it. lol

I'm guessing that it monitors traffic based on where you are, which would require gps. Seems like a battery killer for sure.

I put the widget on my screen, but all it does is show a yellow light. I'm not sure what the overall purpose of the widget is.

If you tap the widget, it will bring you to Google maps. Exit Google maps and now the widget should display the time it will take to get to the widgets destination.

FYI for those who didnt know this (someone correct me if Im wrong)

When you turn on GPS in the settings, it doesnt actually turn it on, it just makes it available to apps to use...

Thats why people (such as myself) always leave it on in the settings...

When the GPS is actually actively running you will see the icon at the top status bar...

back to the original post, I wish the traffic widget had the ability to tap it to turn it on (like when your about to leave to go to the widgets destination) and tap it again to turn it off (once you arrive)... that would be awesome!!!!
