I have a question for all the Android techs out there, I have been able to use the Visual Voice Mail app in the past that is on the market and I prefer it over the stock installed version on the Droid X, the app installs fine on the Blurless ROMs but the apps with Blur it states that the system came with a VVM app already installed and forces me to uninstall the app, I have tried freezing the stock app and also have uninstalled it all together and it still says that there is a app preinstalled, can anyone explain what I am missing and possibly give me a solution to use the Market version on my device.

I am using DarkSlide 4.2 Blur ROM and it works incredible but the VVM app is becoming a pain because every time I reboot the app says it needs activation but when click it opens app without issues. I know that there is a Blurless version of this rom but it removes a number of the apps that I prefer, the VVM app is the only one I want gone from the blur version.

Any solution or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Use Google Voice. It includes free visual voice mail, transcribes the messages, and you can use it with any custom ROM of your choice.

Thanks for suggestion but I used it before and really did.t like it. I like verizons VVM but I justdont like the stock app. I ha e used the market version and it ran without issues, I just. Need to know how to make the default app be the market version. I have used it on other roms but I cant get what's diffrent with DarkSlide that it won't work?

You might be able to rename the vvm app to be able to install the market version. It didn't matter to me as long as I have one or the other so I haven't tried that.

In first post I reported already tried uninstalling but it still said that there was a preinstalled vvm app. I wouldnt mind using stock app if I didn't get the activation required for vvm everytime I reboot. I had same issue when I used the stock rom and it is a pain. When I use the one from market I don't have this issue at all and Verizon wasn't able to explain the issue.

I really like Youmail but in order for it to put your voicemail into text form you have to pay a subscription fee. But I like youmail because you don't have to call in to hear your voicemails and also you can go to your computer and download and save any voicemails you like. Its a must in my book.

Thank You, I have been posting on forum for ROM and a user is playing with a solution, I am just awaiting reply.

For any users that may want to use a 3rd party VVM without being restricted by software to only use default app I thought I would share what I have figured out.... After working with the system prop file the issue can be resolved with the following instructions.

Use root file manager and go to /system
open build.prop in editor
look for "ro.horizontalVVM = True" and change it to False
look for "ro.horizontalBUA = True" and change it to False
exit and save and reboot

You should now be able to install your VVM.apk without it telling you to uninstall it because one is already installed.
