Massive Battery Drain - GPS is on constantly.

Has anyone heard of doing this? "You can disable the Carrier IQ spyware even without rooting. Just go to the phone's dialpad and dial *983*24737# without pressing the Call button at all. A message will flash near the bottom of the screen letting you know the code was accepted."

It might just be specifically for the old AT&T Avail.

I found it on this link: AT&T Avail users - Have you killed off Carrier IQ?

This didn't work on my HTC Desire Eye. But it was worth a shot!

OK, just heard that AT&T Android 5.0 will be available by the end of the month. Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll fix this issue.

The HTC One update page on htc.com also updated from step 2 - integration to step 3 - certification for both the AT&T M7 & M8, which is a pretty good sign it's coming sometime in the next 2 weeks. Most of the other carriers were on step 3 when the roll out started, if I remember correctly.

Well, this is my first time seeing this thread, and I've been curious about why my GPS comes on by itself. It's a recent change, though it does not seem to impact my battery life. I usually get though the day with 70% when I get off work. I do have the "Drive Mode" app disabled, and performed a force stop before turning it off.

There are some apps that use the GPS, but only a few that can do so if the GPS is not on already. I'm going though the permissions now and making a list of which ones can turn GPS on. A thought is any scurity app, or an AT&T device location app which could be used to trace lost/stolen phones.

I went though the entire app list, and the apps which use GPS all have a generic message in the permissions that says the services must be turned on and available before the app can use them. However, some of the apps have permission to modify the system settings, so technically, they could turn the GPS on, then use it. One example is the AT&T Ready2Go app, which has also been using system resources despite being disabled. I do have many of the AT&T apps disabled, includingFamily Map, Mobile Locate, Navigator, DriveMode, and AT&T Smart Wi-Fi. Since I'm not experiencing the battery drain, I suspect that one of these apps may be reading the GPS, but not doing anything else. The AT&T Mobile Locate is one of the prime suspects, since it does have the ability to modify the system setting and control the GPS on/off. I would recommend disabling these apps if you don't use them, and see how that goes. I can give a complete list of apps which I've disabled if anyone needs it...

Well, the new service pack certainly did not help. :-(

Unfortunately I don't think anything short of a firmware update will help :/ After the service pack update my GPS does not seem to be on as much but keep awake time is still sky high. All the usage is coming from Android OS and Android system, so, yeah, Lollipop will hopefully help.

Thanks for the reply.

No. I use a PIN, and have never paired a Bluetooth device with my phone. I checked the security settings, and there are no references to smartlock to be found.

I didn't think there was a smart lock either but go under settings five the search button and type in trusted agents and you'll see the smart lock toggle and switch it off

I had the GPS running I went location and the location history it showed 5 apps that had access to GPS so I touched the apps one by one and force stop them when I got the right one it stopped the GPS from running for me the app that was causing the problem was a game called word Buzz ,,I'm using an HTC one max ,it runs android 4.4.2
