Mate 10 in the UK

So, the Mate 10 looks like it's the top contender to replace my slowly-dying LG G5... but for some reason it's not available in the UK. There's only the more expensive Pro model, which doesn't have Micro SD or a headphone jack. Two things I 100% want in a phone.

So my question is, the Mate 10 is available in Spain, would there be any issues importing the phone from Spain and using an EE sim card in it? Ignoring cost for the moment, I'm talking technical issues.

You would have to ask your carrier what it needs in terms of radios /bands and features.

Then ask the seller what radios /bands/ features it has.

I say this because there are gray market sellers who will sell phones that aren't designed to be sold in a geographic area. It may work, but it may have some limitations.

That would be an interesting one. But don't Carriers in the UK allow usage of any unlocked phones as long as they are GSM?

I also prefer the Mate10 over the Pro. The Mate10 is a real power user version.

Thanks for the replies. I might just ask EE outright and see what their response is. I'm sure Orange/T-mobile is in Spain, I could always just buy it from them, it's the same company.

Wonder if anyone on this forum has done this before?

I've just tweeted EE asking, I shall let you know their reply. (Probably some bad attempt at selling me the Pro).

Let us know how it goes. Chances are it will work but you don't want to buy it and later find out it didn't

Thanks for looking into this!

Did you get any responses ?

Yes, sorry I forgot to reply to this. EE said if I was to import from Spain it would work fine on their network. They couldn't help me import (cos they'd get sued) and they couldn't offer any support or repairs should it break (again, because they'd get sued).

Why would they get sued for?

Why would they get sued for?

Because the Mate 10 isn't officially available in the UK and are therefore going against the manufacturer's Ts & Cs I'm guessing. Don't know really, the guy at EE just said they'd get in trouble for doing it, I assumed he meant legal action.

Alright. As long as the phone works with their network you can use it. Let us know if you decide to pick on up

That's great to hear. At least they confirmed that it works

Most definitely. Huawei didn't want the mate 10 to be sold there and they will make sure that their partners don't do it
