I picked up the M10 pro over the weekend as the price drop made it feel like a no brainer vs the P20 pro. Here are my initial thoughts

+ The battery life is really very good. It is not just throwing a 4000ma battery in there either, the battery management seems excellent.

+ Feels great in the hand and the ergonomics are good too. The S9 and 9+ are (imo) both uncomfortable to use 1 handed and only the iPhone X and maybe the V30 are more comfortable to hold and use 1 handed.

+ Screen is excellent with little or no blue shift

+ Interface is pretty quick and I appreciate some of the baked in extras too. Dark mode, duplicate apps etc

- The always on display is rubbish. I guess I should be grateful it is there at all but in truth without support for non-huawei apps it is as good as useless to me. A shame and given that it has been like this a while and the P20 pro is the same I do fear that this will not be fixed any time soon. It would help slightly if the LED light was not pretty much invisible

- No media volume sync for Bluetooth headphones

- Some quirks with Nova launcher. Pinch in gesture just does not work at all and some widgets break Nova

That is it so far and I am really liking the M10 pro but the AOD display is starting to grate already. It is a feature I have got used to having and really like so this is something that I think will bug the hell out of me moving forward.

YMMV

I thought the Always On Display would bug me like it does you but I've been satisfied with it. Of course I'd like 3rd party notifications like all my other phones had but since getting mine I've realised it's mostly the clock and battery I use it for. My phone sits in a car mount most of the day and on a stand next to my bedside so being able to just glance at it for the time etc is important to me. Maybe using a smart watch at times eases the notification issue for me, I dunno? Totally agree about the notification led though. It could definitely be a lot bigger and brighter.
No issues with my Bluetooth media volume sync either

That’s odd, is there a setting I am missing somewhere? On both my Sony 1000x and in ears the volume operates independently on the headphones and phone?

Re the AOD maybe I’ll get used to it, I do use it for notifications mainly though. I’ve read over on XDA that some non-Huawei stuff does show so maybe it is a case of finding an email app that may work?

It really does not seem to like Nova either, what launchers are you all using?

I turned the AoD off completely, as i "personally" dont use them, but I never had the problem of not showing up Notifications, seemed to work fine for me.... I wish Huawei had used an Ambient AoD like in their Nexus 6p (it only comes on when you pick it up)..

Ive only had my M10P for a few days too and absolutely love it... ill be posting my own review in a few days..

Mostly Microsoft Launcher here but switch back to Nova every now and then. Nova's been pretty trouble free for me. Once or twice since getting the phone it's force closed and reverted to the stock launcher but still unsure why

Tesla unread seems a bit flaky, usually fine but the badges often do not show.

Literally zero issues here with Nova as long as I keep stock widgets away from it. Been using it for the two week I've had the phone.

Have turned off the auto management of Tesla lets see how that goes

Pinch gesture (in or out) is still a no show.

I just switched over to Nova to try and recreate your issues with gestures but pinch in and pinch out both worked perfectly straight away for the shortcuts I made for them

I had restored from a nova backup so tried removing and re-adding the gesture and it works fine now. Still no volume sync over Bluetooth though!

Also the lack of AOD is really bugging me. Currently trying glance plus, need to test over an extended period but battery drain seems negligible. On first install it ran over 1.5 hours before dropping from 100 to 99%. Compares to 2.5 hours using the standard AOD.

Glance plus is a big buggy on the M10 pro to be properly useful so I have uninstalled it.

Still having issues with Nova/Tesla unread which is still hit and miss, seems to be whatsapp mainly but the badge does not show, when I open tesla and toggle whatsapp on and off it does then display ok.

This is my initial throughts, considering a little comparison between my 3 devices: Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus and LG V20 (Please forgive me about bad translation, my mother language is Spanish):

THE GOOD

- I really like a lot the screen, being Amoled does not saturate so much of intense color, and it is a pleasure for my eyes. And under the sun looks very good, although the Galaxy S8 Plus exceeds it at this point.

- The sound that emits by speaker is very good. It does not reach the level of HTC but is still very good.

- It is super simple to blacklist a person you do not want to be called. You simply leave the contact pressed and the list of options is displayed. In the rest of smartphones that I have had, there are several clicks to do this function.

- EMUI is fluid despite being heavy loaded, this smartphone is fluent. There are no lags. And I have become accustomed to its simplicity and its design style.

- The charge of the battery lasted 1 hour and few minutes more to load at 100% Super! And it lasts a lot, last weekend I saw WWE Wrestlemania for almost 5 hours and the battery dropped less than I thought.

- To watch videos on YouTube this equipment is great, it almost does not heat the terminal and with the stereo sound it catches you. I put rock music, salsa, instrumental, and everything sounds great and strong, almost without distorting.

- The rear camera is almost excellent! I have compared photos with the Galaxy S8 Plus and the Mate 10 Pro has more details captured and the colors are closer to reality. And the black and white photos are SPECTACULAR, I'm in love with this function. The interface is intuitive.

- The front camera is normal but definitely better than the LG V20, which is bad. I notice that the color of the person is a little closer to the real.

- The Mate 10 Pro really records very good videos, both day and night. This point I have tried very little, but at least initially leaves me satisfied. Stabilization is good, just not great.

- The themes used by the Mate 10 Pro looks great. It has both colorful and monochrome. And its application takes a little time.

- I used WiFi and GPS many times this weekend, and there is no failure. The WiFi+ you have is fantastic, it recognizes well when choosing WiFi and when choosing mobile data. And I notice that it has a better signal than the Galaxy S8 Plus in Wifi, in the roof of the second floor of my house the Galaxy sometimes loses connection or slows down, the Mate 10 Pro did not have that problem.

- Although it is something cosmetic, Huawei lets me see the speed of the network in a very simple way. In the other terminals I imagine you can but it has some complexity.

- My girlfriend tells me that she listens to me better when I call her since I use the Mate 10 Pro. Same my parents and friends. And when I call, I listen to them well too.

THE BAD

- It does not have an FM radio (This is the reason why I continue to use the LG V20 as a third device).

- I have not found a way to share the screen with a Smart TV for example. I mean the form without using cables. In the Galaxy S8 Plus and the V20 is very simple, this Mate 10 Pro does not have it (or at least I can not find it).

- The voice recording is not as good as the other 2 teams. It sounds lower.

- Although the screen is great, I feel that it lacks a little more brightness.

- Both the Galaxy S8 Plus and the LG V20 when I called someone and the call was cut, the smartphone warned me with a slight vibration that the call was cut or ended. This is very useful when I have my cell phone in my pants pocket and I walk in areas where there is a lot of crime. The Mate 10 Pro does not have this option, for which I have no way of knowing, except to take out the cell phone and see it.

- In the Galaxy S8 Plus (with Nougat), for example, the Microsoft Outlook icon with a number indicating the number of new messages arrived is displayed. In the Mate 10 Pro (with Oreo) only a green circle is displayed that tells me the new messages arrived, but it does not tell me how many are.

- The charger that comes with the equipment does not work for other equipment. I mean, I can charge the Galaxy S8 Plus with the original V20 charger, and vice versa. However, when I wanted to charge the V20 or the Galaxy S8 Plus with the original Mate 10 Pro charger, it charges absolutely nothing.

- The USB Type C hearing aids that come with the Mate 10 Pro are uncomfortable for my ears. In the end I do not use them.

- Based on the previous point, I use an HTC headset with jack input. With the Type C connector to jack that comes in the Mate 10 Pro it works and it sounds super good. However, the answer / hang up and volume buttons from the HTC headset does not work.

- Although the Mate 10 Pro records very good videos, the audio of my voice I do not hear it as loud as I would like. It could be because of the headphones, so we'll have to continue testing it.

- I use Switfkey as a keyboard. For some reason, the Mate 10 Pro that I have does not allow me to disable GBoard, much less eliminate it.

- Double tap does not work to turn the screen on or off. I've always been a fan of LG for this reason, it's so simple and intuitive. It is a cosmetic detail, but one gets used to it and lacks it.

This is the setting you need to choose for screen sharing. It's called Mirror Share on Huawei devices.
You can also find that option in Settings under 'Device Connection'
